Tasting Notes:

Pale gold with green highlights. Intense aromas of apricots, cardamom, white pepper and fresh ginger.Lifted ginger spice is layered on the palate with mineral, sourdough-like texture, apricots and almon savouriness. It is complex while at the same time shows purity and restraint that will unwind slowly in the glass and take the imbiber on a sensory journey.

Technical:

A lovely, wet winter set the vines up well for a healthy start to the season. Spring was drier than average and the vines responded quickly, growing and flowering well and setting a good number of bunches. Summer saw warm, dry days with the important cool Eden Valley nights. These conditions ripen the grapes while maintaining freshness and natural acidity. The balmy Indian Summer of early

March helped finish ripening these perfectly balanced and flavoured grapes.

Handpicked Viognier grapes were whole-bunch pressed to mature French oak barrels, where they were fermented by ‘wild’ yeasts occurring naturally in the vineyard. These wild yeasts play a subtle yet important role in the development of the wine, creating layers of richness, complexity and fine textures.

Accolades & Awards:

97 Point Rated - Ned Goodwin Wine Companion

"A stellar viognier. A wine that fans of the northern Rhone, such as myself, increasingly hold in great esteem. A complete understanding of the physiological tendencies of the variety is apparent: a salubrious texture. Unafraid of viscosity, weight and phenolics. Then, the aroma! Apricot, orange blossom, cumquat, honeysuckle and crystalline ginger. Long, slippery and yet not out of hand. A gentle chew and impeccable oak management reining it all in across the seams. Very fine."

95 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review

"Slightly reductive at first sniff, very fine and elegant yet very intense, with creamy lees notes and subtle varietal cues of apricot and spice. It's a superb wine of great flavour and balance, taking a while to emerge fully from its shell. Citrus notes on the palate. A polished and quite glorious viognier with the world at its feet."

93 Point Rated - Bob Campbell The Real Review

"Complex, savoury viognier with struck-flint, fireworks, subtle tree fruit and apricot blossom scents. The wine opened up after a few minutes in the glass to reveal more pronounced stone fruit and citrus characters. A tight, concentrated wine supported by a backbone of fine tannins. Should age well "
