Tasting Notes:

Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish tinged edges and a watery hue. Aromas of nectarines, grapefruit and citrus overlay subtle nougat, dried honey and gun flint notes. Medium bodied, there’s good richness to the ripe nectarine, dried honey and citrus fruit which sits atop delicate biscuity oak elements and infusions of gun flint. Finishes dry with a faintly creamed mouthfeel and good fresh acidity. Aftertaste of ripe nectarines, citrus, dried honey, light biscuit and faint gun flint infusions.

Technical:

The wine is made from a blend of fruit from the Indigo Vineyard at Beechworth and the McNamara Vineyard at Whoroughly (about 15kms from our vineyard in the Alpine Valleys GI) . The indigo fruit is Bernard 95 clone on Richter 110 rootstock.

The growing season started with higher than average winter and early spring rainfall. Winter was long and cold delaying budburst which foretold of a later harvest. The cold early spring led to a later veraision which was followed by a warm January. Picking was leisurely affair after the very compressed 2016. Our first fruit was harvested on the 18th of February (16 days laer than 2016), our Chardonnay was picked on 23 February. Fruit quality was excellent across the entire vineyard was little disease pressure. The wine was aged in 20% in new oak and 80% older French Barriques for 10 months.
