Tasting Notes:

The split is 81% Tasmania/19% Yarra Valley.  A sweet but savoury nuttiness/ripe seed character threads its way through this wine from tip (nose) to tail.  Fleshy, juicy golden delicious cut with grapefruit and bacon fat/lanolin.  A complex web of textures and flavours. If I didn’t know, I’d have guessed this was more Yarra than Tasmania. Nice length.

Technical:

This Chardonnay is released as a tribute to Eileen Hardy, the matriarch of Australia's best known wine making and sailing family. Eileen actively influenced the Hardy wine company between 1938 - 1975, and was honoured with an OBE in 1977 for her outstanding contribution to the Australian wine industry. Sourced from cool climate Tasmania, Yarra Valley fruit. This finely structured wine shows exceptional depth and array of flavour.

Accolades & Awards:

96 Points - James Halliday Wine Companion

"Sourced from Tasmania and the Upper Yarra Valley; barrel-fermented in 50% new, 50% 1-year-old French oak, 80% mlf. Combines complexity with feline grace, a marvellous array of white stone fruit, melon, fig and grapefruit flavours all seeking to speak, the mlf providing a creamy note to the texture."

96 Points - Huon Hooke The Real Review

"(Tasmania & Yarra Valley) Full, bright yellow colour. Intense, rich, open-knit peachy bouquet, with lots of richness and volume, bordering on the opulent. Lashings of high quality oak, in good balance with the rich, concentrated fruit flavour. Outstanding wine."

96 Points - Huon Hooke Cellar Talk Wines

"Yes, it’s expensive, but it’s cheaper than a premier cru Burgundy from a reputable maker. Full bright yellow; rich peachy open-knit bouquet with smoky and spicy complexing characters, then a powerful, concentrated palate with richness that borders on opulent. An outstanding chardonnay from accomplished winemaker Tom Newton. Now to 2022. 13 per cent alcohol. "

95 Points - Gary Walsh The Wine Front

"I think I’ll leave the 2012 Eileen Hardy Pinot Noir for Mattinson or Mike to review. Meanwhile, I’m pretty sold on this one. Touch of struck match, fine spicy cinnamon oak, grapefruit and stonefruit. Medium bodied, well etched lines of acidity softened with a light creaminess. Pure fruited, not too much winery work or oak – or rather – just enough to lend complexity. Cool, fresh and spicy to close with admirable length of flavour. Hits the Modern Australian style bang on."
