Tasting Notes

Lavender, plum and cardamom spices, mocha and boot polish. Quite a busy nose! Ripe plums and licorice spice of Touriga Naçional, the Tinta Cão brings bright and fragrant blue fruit energy. Tinta Roriz brings a savoury depth to the palate to compliment the Tinta Amarela’s floral and bay leaf herbal lift. To tie everything together the finesse of Alvarelhão and the acidity of the Sousão tightens, brightens and drives the long palate. Wonderfully complex and yet medium bodied.

Accolades & Awards

96 Point Rated - Phillip Rich Halliday Wine Companion

35/35/12/7/6/5% touriga nacional/tinta cão/tinta amarela/tinta roriz/alvarelhão/sousão, co-fermented and initially foot trod in a traditional lagar. This one-of-a-kind wine is beautifully perfumed with mountain herbs, lavender, rosemary and briary red fruits. Beautifully balanced and proportioned on the palate and immediately appealing with its gentle texture, refreshing acidity and superfine tannin structure.

93 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review

Medium to deep, bright red/purple colour. The bouquet is very alluring with Beaujolais-like whole-bunch aromas, strongly stemmy but not green. The palate is medium-weight, softly textured and fine tannined. A whiff of reduction. The wine is deliciously fruity and soft, appetising, and packs a lot of flavour into its mild-mannered structure. A real charmer.

Technical

The last fruit to be harvested from the vineyard. Hand picked and destemmed together in a ‘field blend’ style retaining as many whole berries as possible. The first working of the must is with the feet as in a traditional lagar in Portugal to extract tannins from both skins and seeds. Gentle pressing and maturation in old oak barrels for 10 months.
