Tasting Notes:

A complex, layered nose of lifted blueberry, blackberry and bloodplum, with hints of dark chocolate, liquorice and warm spices, enhanced with subtle, fragrant oak. Plush and opulent with complex layered flavours of mulberry, blackberry, liquorice, dark chocolate and warm spices, lengthened by fine acidity and a velvety texture. The tannins are fine and long, framing the palate and providing structure and length.

Technical:

The 2021 growing season saw early, average rainfall and warmer than average temperatures. A hot, dry November closed out spring, though this was followed by a mild December and cooler than average January with only two very warm days. Veraison was later than usual, in early February, with mild February temperatures allowing for gentle, steady, extended ripening which resulted in exceptional fruit quality. Matured as individual vineyard batches in a combination of 73% seasoned and 27% new French and American oak, for 17 months.

93 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review
"Very deep, dark, dense purple-red colour, stains the glass, while the bouquet is a riot of coconut, chocolate, vanilla and some peppery high-notes. It's very full bodied and rich, fleshy, dense and almost opulent, with lashings of soft tannins and generous helpings of everything, oak included. It just needs time. A great cellaring proposition."

92 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front
"This is pretty solid. Blackberry and plum flavours with saltbush, peppercorn, mint and toast. A bit of vanilla too, but understated, as much in the creaminess of the mouthfeel as the flavour. The tannin here though has a bit of class to it; etched, fine-grained, convincing. There’s a good deal of heft to this wine. It’s satisfying."
