This is a rich and lively McLaren Vale Shiraz, showing characteristics of style and driving acidity that are hallmarks across the Ulithorne range. The name ‘Familia’ is a nod to the families of Growers in the McLaren Vale region from whom these grapes were sourced.
With plum, fresh cherries, a lick of pepper, and cedar spice; this easy drinking Shiraz is perfect share with your own ‘familia.’ The classic style is out of respect to the tradition of the Growers that work with us to grow top notch McLaren Vale Shiraz.
A well-planned blend of five separate premium Shiraz parcels, hand and machine harvested, from mid to late March. Fermented in a combination of small opens and statics, all batches were pressed and filled to barrel until blending after 10 months in oak.
95 Points James Halliday Wine Companion
Five separate (grower) parcels fermented in a combination of small open and static tanks, blended after 10 months in oak. Shows elegance not always associated with this region. Plum and cherry fruit on the bouquet is restrained, sitting in harmony with notes of milk chocolate and subtle oak, the palate equally composed: seamless, finely textured, long and lingering.
93 Points Patrick Eckel
A nose that is all about mocha and dark chocolate with rich plum and blackcurrant fruit. An effortlessly svelte wine with generosity in all the right places but underpinned by an enjoyable bedrock of fine but textural tannins that give way to tauter dark cherry fruit. There is enough acidity to keep things moving and underwrite future development. Classy oak sees out the finish.
Highly Rated Huon Hooke
Deep, bold, bright red/purple colour. The aroma is fresh and youthful, floral and bright, while the palate is full-bodied and more gutsy than most early-release shirazes. There is gritty, earthy, minerally tannins, and a twist of bitterness. Black fruits and black-strap licorice. Very good.
