Tasting Notes:

The 2018 Turkey Flat Shiraz is tightly coiled. A wine of great finesse, the power and longevity of this wine will only be revealed with time, be that open for a day on your kitchen bench or a decade in your cellar. With time boysenberry, blackberry, violet, earth, clove toast and cedarwood will all be revealed to expose a wine of tension, restraint and underlying power.

Technical:

The 2018 growing season was long, hot and dry leading to a slightly early, low yielding vintage. The wines from the 2018 vintage are fruit rich, well coloured and of substance. The vintage will be remembered for producing wines that reflect the generosity for which has made the Barossa famous. This Shiraz is a result of a very intricate blending process. After each parcel of fruit is individually vinified & aged in specially selected French oak barrels, the final blend is created with careful consideration to upholding its reputation for cellaring gracefully, retaining its freshness and balance for many years.

Accolades & Awards:

95 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson Wine Companion

"38% new French oak, 15% whole bunches. Ground coffee, ripe plum/redcurrant and blackberry flavours sweep confidently through the palate, chicory and sweet earth characters carried along for the ride. It's not flashy or necessarily seductive, but it's the most impeccable Barossa shiraz you could ever hope to find. It will mature beautifully."

94 Point Rated - Gary Walsh The Wine Front

"I didn’t get a personal note from winemaker Mark Bulman with this box of samples, which was quite upsetting for me. Amazingly, this is the first TF Shiraz I’ve reviewed on The Wine Front. Dark brooding wine, with glimmers of raspberry, clove and toast, subdued perfume, and dried beef. It’s full-bodied, tannin is firm and tightly packed, some tobacco and toast, but kind of locked up as a young wine. Acidity is settled, and there’s something like boysenberry freshness hiding in the darkness. It’s pretty long, grainy and full to close. It feels like a wine with a big future."

92 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review

"Very deep, bold, youthful purple colour. The bouquet has some charred-oak overtones superimposed on blackberry and dark plum, the palate full-bodied and rich, ripe and slightly rustic in its gritty tannins and bold, super-ripe flavours. Graphite and black olive chime in. A gutsy shiraz that will respond to ageing as well as to hearty food."
