Experience the opulence of Barossa with The Colonial Estate Explorateur Shiraz 2023, a 95 Point Rated, Gold Medal-winning red crafted from vineyards in the revered north-western pocket of the Barossa Valley. This exceptional vintage delivers elegance and depth, true to its storied terroir.


In the glass, it boasts a deep purple hue with a red-brick edge, hinting at its richness and maturity. On the nose, ripe blackberry, licorice, aniseed, and subtle oak aromas promise a layered tasting experience. The palate opens softly with plush blackberries, plum, and licorice, evolving into a full-flavored mid-palate of fine-grained tannins and savory complexity. Finishing with delicate notes of cashew, olive, and charry oak, this Shiraz offers a long, smooth, and moreish conclusion.


A perfect match for braised lamb shanks, beef short ribs, aged cheddar, or black pepper steak, this wine is made to impress whether poured now or cellared for years to come.

Technical:

The vineyards that make up Explorateur are based in the northwestern Barossa Valley. This is a belt of land/terroir that runs from just to the northwest of Tanunda – Marananga, Greenock, Moppa, Ebenezer, and through to Stockwell, just north of Nuriootpa. Cropping levels are kept low to ensure fruit flavour is focus. The same equipment that is accorded to our more expensive wines is made available to Explorateur. Fermentation is French in approach for up to two thirds of the wine made; the rest is vinified in a more Australian way.
