Tasting Notes:

Deep rich and expressive bouquet with black fruits, dark chocolate and mulberries, plum and black olive. Full bodied and highly concentrated fruit with a really plush texture. The flavour concentration is powerful and yet matches with  its impeccable balance and elegance. The fruit flavours of plum and black fruits, all work within the framework, which is fleshy and opulent with a chocolate character shining on the mid palate. There is a lovely spicy note along with subtle hint of oak, but this does not dominate given the powerful fruit flavour. The tannins are velvety smooth which when allowed to open up and breathe illustrate the longevity possible with a long dark seductive finish which is in a word mouthwatering.

Technical:

The finest selection of 100-year-old dry grown vines, which are pruned severely and receive two runs of green harvesting finally producing one tonne to two tonnes per acre. The grapes were then hand-picked, and the grapes sorted. The 2019 vintage was characterized by steady ripening of fruit and we were able to select individual blocks in the vineyard to get the very best fruit flavours with some tight ripe tannins. The wine is fermented in vats after extreme cold maceration. The wines have their malolactic in new French oak and are thereafter in the same oak for 24 months prior to bottling with minimal filtration and then further aging in bottle.

Accolades & Awards:

96 Point Rated - Sam Kim Wine Orbit
"This is gloriously expressed on the nose showing blackberry, spicy oak, tapenade and mocha characters, followed by a sumptuous palate offering richly rounded mouthfeel combined with plush texture and loads of silky tannins. Mouth Filling and deliciously long. At its best: now to 2036. $60.00. www.colonialwinecompany.com.au. March 2022."

95 Point Rated - Australian Wine Showcase Magazine
"Attractive dense nose of ripe mulberry with a hint of licorice. The palate exhibits great intensity and persistence of lively fruit flavours and structure from nice firm tannins."
