The Rock Ferry Cawtes Cave Central Otago Organic Rosé 2023 is an elegant single vineyard expression, certified 100% organic and crafted to showcase purity, balance and complexity. In the glass, it shines with pale salmon and apricot hues edged by a light golden rim, inviting you into a wine of refinement and intrigue. Aromas of ripe nectarine and red apple are lifted by delicate florals and a subtle wet stone minerality, a hallmark of Central Otago terroir.
On the palate, it is crisp and dry, where fine tannins and bright acidity frame layers of fruit that echo the bouquet, with citrus peel adding zest and length. Textural and beautifully structured, this wine highlights lees complexity that lingers long into the finish. Critics have been unanimous in their praise: Cameron Douglas MS awarded it 93 points, while Sam Kim of Wine Orbit also rated it 93 points with 5 stars, affirming its finesse. Huon Hooke has described Rock Ferry wines as “superb,” and this release certainly lives up to that acclaim.
A versatile food wine, it is a perfect match for fresh seafood, smoked salmon, charcuterie, goats cheese or even Mediterranean-style tapas, with its refreshing acidity cutting through richness while enhancing every bite. This is Central Otago rosé at its most graceful, delivering both character and sophistication.
93 Point Rated Cameron Douglas Master Sommelier
"Pale salmon and apricot hues with a light golden rim lead to the bouquet of complexity, ripeness and intrigue. Scents of nectarine and red apple along with a floral highlight and fine lees and sift wet stone mineral idea. Crisp and dry on the palate with textures noticed first - fine tannins and acidity frame core fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet with the addition of a citrus peel. Balanced and well made with the finish highlighting a mineral and lees complexity. Best drinking from day of purchase through end of summer 2026."
93 Point Rated5 Stars Sam Kim Wine Orbit
"Tightly structured and restrained, the wine shows raspberry, crunchy apple, lemon pith, and oatmeal nuances on the nose, followed by a focused palate delivering linear mouthfeel and vibrant acidity, making it sleek and mouth-watering with a sustained, refined finish. At its best: now to 2026."
