Technical:

The 2021 Mount Langi Ghiran Billi Billi Shiraz is a delicious Shiraz made from a selection of premium cool climate vineyards throughout Victoria; predominantly the Grampians including a portion from the Mount Langi Ghiran vineyards, home of the iconic Langi Shiraz. Beautifully approachable, this is a medium-bodied generous wine with vibrant red and blue fruit flavours, finely structured tannins, white pepper notes and a delicious clean finish.

2021 was another relatively mild year in terms of temperatures. Yields were back up above average, and quality was good.

Accolades & Awards:

93 Points Campbell Mattinson - Halliday Wine Companion
"Mostly (83%) Grampians fruit, though there are contributions from Heathcote, Swan Hill and Bendigo. This wine is often a happy hunting ground for value, but this release is a particularly good version of it. It's alive with peppery spice and fluid with plum-shot flavour, and while it's medium in weight (at most) it feels silken and satisfying. The spice notes here, wow, they're gorgeous."

93 Points Aaron Brasher - The Real Review
"Vibrant purple red in the glass. Bright and complex aromas of blueberry, spice, sarsaparilla, pot pourri and anise. Mid-weight and lively on the palate, full of blue fruits, dark cherry, spice, cola and nutmeg oak. Long, textured, cooler fruited and quite delicious. Top value."

Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot 2023
"This is a delightfully fragrant and spicy little shiraz from the Grampians. soft red fruit with a scented violet-like character. The palate is medium weight and beautifully balanced displaying vibrant red fruit, a little spice and a dab of oak."

93 Point Rated & 100 Best Australian Wine, Matthew Jukes 2023/24
"An incredible wine. I know it is the cheapie in the range, but suspend disbelief until you have tasted it. This is a sour, peppery and amazingly aromatic Shiraz with a green theme (green peppercorn) atop ridiculously ripe fruit. With no 2020 made, this vintage follows on from the superb 2019, and it means that Billi Billi, for the first time in my memory, has played a blinder in back-to-back releases. Crunchy tannins form the perfect platform on which the glorious blackberry, liquorice, rhubarb, and cherry notes cavort. 70% of this wine is estate fruit, so that goes some way to answering why this wine has such an elite flavour."
