The Metala 9 Mile Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 is a remarkable 9-year-old museum release that showcases the depth, structure, and heritage of Langhorne Creek Cabernet. With a deep crimson colour tinged by garnet hues, this mature release offers a beautifully evolved bouquet of blackberry, mulberry, and dark cherry, layered with hints of fennel, leather, spice, and subtle tar.
On the palate, it is generous and complex, with blackberry and blackcurrant fruit woven seamlessly through earthy textures, mint, and spice. Juicy, textured tannins provide both structure and finesse, leading into a long, elegant finish that highlights the pedigree of this celebrated vineyard.
Produced by Metala Vineyards, the inaugural winner of Australia’s most prestigious red wine honour, the Jimmy Watson Trophy, this release underscores the estate’s legendary history. Established in 1891 and still family-owned, Metala is also the custodian of the oldest family-owned vines in the world, making this Cabernet Sauvignon a true piece of Australian wine heritage. Drinking beautifully now, yet still capable of further graceful ageing.
