Tasting Notes:

Minty, blackcurrant fruit on the nose with a ripe plummy influence. The palate is super concentrated with black, liqueurish fruit cascading effortlessly and deep to deliver sustained length. Chewy and lavish with silky tannins.

Technical:

Small parcels were placed into open fermenters, then basket pressed into a careful selection of new and seasoned French Oak barrels for eighteen months, before being bottled un-fined and unfiltered. Purposeful yet considered use of traditional winemaking techniques alongside modern practices contribute to the 'old world' feel of the wine.

Accolades & Awards:

96 Point Rated - Ken Gargett Wine Pilot
"The comments on the Block’s Road Cabernet, pertaining to the glories of Clare Cabernet, apply three times over here. This is a serious Cabernet which can sit comfortably with the nation’s top examples. The small parcels of grapes see open fermenters and are then basket pressed to a range of French oak barrels, some new and some seasoned, for 18 months. It is bottled without filtering or fining. Maroon in colour, this is richly flavoured with notes of chocolate, cassis and blackberries. Cigar box, mulberries and tobacco leaf notes, with a hint of the traditional Cab herbaceousness, but it is simply there as just one more factor contributing to the complexity. There is exceptional oak integration too and impressive length. The palate is juicy, ripe and supple with bright acidity and finishes with the silkiest of tannins. A really exciting Cab. Terrific now, but there is real potential here. Who knows just how good it could be in a decade."

95 Point Rated - Ray Jordan Wine Pilot
"This wine moves into a heady zone of high-quality Cabernet from Clare. And it’s a wine destined for many years in the cellar, but one which is so drinkable even now. Minty, blackcurrant fruit on the nose with a ripe plummy influence. The palate is super concentrated with black, liqueurish fruit cascading effortlessly and deep to deliver sustained length. Chewy and lavish with an energy that drives it."

94 Point Rated - Ned Goodwin James Halliday's Wine Companion
"Low yielding fruit, hand-picked. Shouldn't this be the norm rather than bragging rights at this price? Admittedly, the range of Cabernets at this address is like no other. The saturation of fruit, miraculously fidelitous to variety and place, is impressive. Blackcurrant and mulberry; anise and tapenade; sage and bouquet garni, barrage across the mouth, staining every pore. Powerful, sure. But not galumphing. Long and impressive for the idiom. Like eating wine, rather than drinking it."
