The Jim Barry Lodge Hill Clare Valley Shiraz 2022 is a powerful yet refined expression of Shiraz from one of Australia’s most iconic producers. The Lodge Hill Vineyard, originally known as Wolta Wolta, dates back to 1839 and was purchased by Jim Barry in 1977. While initially intended for Riesling, Shiraz was planted in 1979, and has since become the source of one of the Clare Valley’s most celebrated red wines.
In the glass, it glistens with a deep ruby hue. The bouquet is intense and layered, opening with blackberry, plum and dark chocolate, before unfolding subtle notes of vanilla, spice and a faint smokiness. The palate is full-bodied and opulent, seamlessly integrating rich dark fruit flavours with velvety tannins. Black pepper and hints of oak-driven spice add complexity, leading to a long, lingering finish that leaves a warm and satisfying impression.
The 2022 vintage has already earned wide acclaim, awarded 96 Points and a Gold Medal at the Perth Royal Wine Show, 95 Points and a Gold Medal at the Royal Sydney Wine Show, and 94 Points from JamesSuckling.com, alongside multiple gold medals that confirm its pedigree.
This award-winning Clare Valley Shiraz is a perfect match for slow-braised lamb shanks, chargrilled ribeye, venison stew, or a rich mushroom ragù. Its balance of power, structure and elegance also makes it a superb candidate for cellaring over the next decade.
