A classic example of McLaren Vale Shiraz
displaying vibrant and expressive notes of
dark fruits, chocolate, violets and vanillin
spice.
On the palate, the wine is dense and
intense, showing ripe plum & dark berry
fruits in combination with chocolate,
liquorice and tar. The palate is framed by
persistent fine tannin's that carry the flavour
and finishes with mouth-watering acidity. A
palate of balance & underlying power.
This 2015 is the inaugural release of the Hardys Tintara Yeenunga Shiraz single vineyard, a unique expression of McLaren vale Shiraz from an elevated site on the northern edge of the region. This old vine Shiraz is some of the best in the region, a very pure & perfumed example of McLaren Vale Shiraz. The vineyard sits high above the township of McLaren Vale, overlooking St Vincents gulf & the Onkaparinga Gorge. This site consistently produces Shiraz oozing with personality and is a true expression of its site. A cool & wet start to the growing season led to some variation across the district with bud burst & canopy growth. A warm springhowever moved things along and by early January it was clear that an early ripening year was upon us. Good to excellent vinecanopies & moderate yields led to rapid ripening and accumulation of flavour in Shiraz fruit. All McLaren Vale fruit was picked by the end of the 1st week of March. A rapid & fast paced vintage of small quantity, with very high quality.
95 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion
"From vines planted in '72, this is the very essence of McLaren Vale shiraz. The brilliant dark purple hue leads onto a mound of dark plums and red berries dipped in dark mint chocolate, warm earth, oak aromas and flavours also at play, yet they'll recede in time. Full-bodied with velvety tannins, the palate cruises along for quite some distance."
95 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review
"Deep, youthful red colour with a good tint of purple. The bouquet is spicy and herbal, deep and lush with hints of aniseed, the palate full-bodied and intense with a twist of licorice-like bitterness and a long, firm finish. A distinctive, superb shiraz. It will reward long-term cellaring."
93 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front
"Fresh aromatics, boysenberried, slightly tarry-but-in-a-good way. Toast, Dutch chocolate, a spreading wealth of tannin. An imposing wine, with more than a little presence. For all its might and power the palate feels closed, even sulky. Leave it alone awhile. A good while. It’s not a lot of fun at present."
