Brilliant red with a vivid crimson edge. Highly aromatic fruit notes of mulberry, blueberry and red plum. Fresh sage, musk and hints of dried herbs together with flashes of black olive tapenade and savoury meats present a wine of real aromatic interest. Red fruits and spice dominate the palate flavours. Initially quite chiselled, with sinewy tannin that frames the wine and leads to a long and persistent finish. Complexity comes from subtle French cedary oak and notes of smoked meats, as well as black & green olives. The 2016 Tintara Subregional Upper Tintara Shiraz is a pure expression of fragrant McLaren Vale Shiraz in combination with fine structural tannin's and juicy acidity leading to a wine of prodigious length and flavour intensity
Hardys Tintara Sub Regional wines highlight the uniqueness of the different Sub Regions within McLaren Vale. The aromatics, tannin's and flavours are vastly different, attributed to the contrasting soil, vine age, aspect and elevation. An outstanding year in McLaren Vale has resulted in this single site vineyard parcel to shine in 2016. Hand-picked and berry sorted prior to open fermentation and basket pressing, the wine has benefited from 17 months of maturation in large format oak vessels to preserve the fragrance & characteristics of this small sub region in McLaren Vale.
Vintage 2016 proved to be quite unique with high quality fruit being delivered to the winery with well above average yields. A cool winter and warm spring was preceded by a late rainfall event that boosted vine growth and refreshed soils. Closer to harvest, bumper crops were aided into ripening by mild summer temperatures and sporadic rain. Picking at optimum maturity has resulted in wines which display vibrant bright colours, with ripe flavour profiles, rounded flavoursome palates and soft fine tannin's.
97 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion
"Stakes its claim with its sub-regional expression and a beating heart from its 100+yo vines. There's an extraordinary depth of flavour and yet utter restraint; with its perfume, layers of red and black fruits, a dusting of spice and warm iron shavings, this is most definitely savoury in outlook. Fine tannins and mouthwatering freshness to the acidity all dance across the palate."
95 Point Rated - James Suckling
"An excellent shiraz that has a wealth of intense blackberries and dark plums, laced with espresso and some meaty nuances. The palate has great depth and richness. Long and composed. Drink or hold. Screw cap."
