Grant Burge The Holy Trinity Barossa Valley Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2022

The Grant Burge The Holy Trinity Barossa Valley Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2022 is a stunning wine that captures the essence of the iconic Barossa Valley. The 2022 vintage benefited from above-average winter rainfalls, ensuring a full soil profile at the start of the growing season, which set the stage for a lush and vibrant vintage. Despite a severe hail event in October that reduced yields in parts of the region, the cooler temperatures during the growing season, with moderate heat and minimal extreme weather, allowed the vines to thrive, producing wines with pure fruit flavors and excellent structure.

The Grenache for this wine comes from 80-plus-year-old bush vine vineyards, where the fruit is handpicked and fermented in open-top fermenters with heading-down boards, ensuring optimal extraction of flavors. After fermentation, the wine is carefully matured in large French oak Foudres to preserve its purity while adding depth and complexity.

The 2022 Holy Trinity presents with a medium-dense red color, accentuated by deeper, darker magenta hues. The nose is vibrant and complex, offering raspberry, ginger, and orange oil aromas, with subtle sweet spice notes. On the palate, it reveals a sweet and crunchy fruit entry, with red cherry, currants, and a hint of cranberry that provide a lively, fresh profile. The subtle spiciness of juniper, caraway, and white pepper further enhances the complexity of the wine. The tannins are tight and well-integrated, with a slaty, almost graphite-like texture, leading to a long, fulfilling finish.

This wine is highly youthful and showcases the careful handling and quality fruit that Grant Burge is known for. With 94 points from Ray Jordan of Winepilot, as well as 95 points for the previous vintage from James Halliday Wine Companion and 93 points from Aaron Brasher, it’s clear that The Holy Trinity 2022 is an outstanding expression of the Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre blend from Barossa Valley.

A perfect wine for aging, it will continue to evolve and gain complexity over the coming years. The Holy Trinity pairs beautifully with grilled meats, hearty stews, or aged cheeses.

"Really youthful and bright in the glass. Dark fruited aromas of stewed plum, mulberry, pudding spice, bramble and dark chocolate. Rich, round, mouth-filling and juicy. There's lashings of dark fruit flavour, along with sweet, nutty oak, liqueur chocolate and a ferrous earthiness. The tannins are firm and shapely and the acidity has lovely life and lift. There's real drinkability here."
