Tasting Notes:

The Grant Burge Meshach Barossa Valley Shiraz 2019 is the flagship wine of Grant Burge Wines, representing the pinnacle of the winery's winemaking craftsmanship. Sourced primarily from the Filsell Vineyard near Lyndoch, planted in 1920, with contributions from three other small sites, each with vines over 100 years old, this Shiraz is a true expression of the Barossa Valley's rich terroir and long history of vine cultivation. The wine is matured for 22 months in a blend of new American and French oak hogsheads, followed by three years in bottle, allowing the wine to develop and mature before being released as a four to five-year-old vintage.

Meshach is a generous Barossa Shiraz, offering a ripe, dense palate packed with fruit and chocolaty tannins, supported by malty and roasted-chestnut oak flavors. The wine evolves with age, developing choc-berry and panforte characters, making it a highly sought-after wine for collectors and enthusiasts. Named after Grant Burge’s great-grandfather, Meshach is a perfect blend of traditional winemaking philosophies and contemporary practices, prized for both its consistency and cellaring potential.

The 2019 vintage is excellent with a dense and dark purple color. The wine presents intense blackberry, complemented by assertive yet elegant cedary oak aromas and a touch of dark cocoa that supports the fruit aromatics. On the palate, the wine is rich, layered, and complex, with dense black fruits at the forefront, balanced by powdery textural tannins that provide support and length. This Shiraz is a wine built for cellaring, with exceptional aging potential, and will continue to evolve and drink well for many years to come.

Awarded 95 points and a Gold Medal by David Brookes in the Halliday Wine Companion, the 2019 Meshach Shiraz is a standout wine from the 5 Red Star rated Grant Burge Wines, a fifth-generation family-owned winery known for producing some of the finest wines in the Barossa Valley.

Accolades & Awards:

95 Point Rated, David Brookes Halliday Wine Companion

"Grant Burge's flagship shiraz offering has built a loyal base of fans and has an enviable pedigree of cellaring like a champion. It's no wallflower. It's full bodied, and big and bold, with a dark concentration of fruit, a proliferation of spicy oak and hefty tannins and a real sense of horsepower ticking away under the hood. The 2019 model perhaps has a little more tooth to the tannins, but it's all you expect from a wine of its reputation. Powerful and built in the traditional style."

93 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review

"Deep rich red with a trace of purple lingering; the bouquet is big on coconut/vanilla/chocolate oak infused characters. It's full bodied and firm, with oaky tannins galore to match the bouquet. A sappiness in the texture also disturbs, and calls out for food. It's too oaky now: I wouldn't touch it for at least 5 years."
