Tasting Notes:

Medium deep with distinct boysenberry colour. Vibrant nose displaying distinct Barossa Cabernet characteristics. Anise, cassis and dark mint chocolate are evident upon first swirl with a gentle shade of lifted boysenberry toward the back of the glass. There is an elegance and poise on the palate distinctive of this vineyard and the vintage. Beautiful tannin coats the mid-palate with a touch of coffee bean and gingersnap on the finish. Oak and acidity are brilliantly balanced showing a wine with exceptional cellaring potential.

Technical:

At the southern end of the Barossa near Mount Crawford there is a magnificent property established over 150 years ago, the entrance marked by two grand pillars - Corryton Park. One of the highest and coolest sites in the Barossa region, it provides perfect conditions for creating world class Cabernet with finesse, depth and complexity. The Corryton Park Cabernet Sauvignon is a combination of excellent fruit sourced from both the Corryton Park vineyard and specially selected complementary parcels from the Barossa Valley floor.

The Corryton Park Vineyards is always picked as small, separate batches which are crushed and fermented separately to highlight the innate variations between different clonal plantings and microclimates across the vineyard. After primary fermentation, the wines are carefully evaluated and several parcels are selected to remain on skins for up to 25 days for a process called extended maceration – which sees the wines develop richness of flavour and softening of tannins. After pressing and racking the wine was matured in French oak hogsheads for a minimum of 18 months.

‘Fruit was sourced predominantly from the Corryton Park vineyard in the high country of the Southern Eden Valley. This is Barossa varietal Cabernet Sauvignon at its best, showcasing the very cool location of this vineyard’, Craig Stansborough, Chief Winemaker.

Accolades & Awards:

96 Point Rated - Tyson Stelzer James Halliday Wine Companion

"85/9/6% cabernet sauvignon/merlot/petit verdot from 20+yo vines. Matured 18 months in 25% new French oak hogsheads. I have long admired Corryton Park cabernet, less showy and flamboyant than is typical for these parts, and ultimately more sophisticated. It leads out closed and contemplative, with a core of crunchy blackcurrant fruit rising on the mid palate and holding with impressive line and drive. Eloquent, bright acidity and brilliant fine-grained tannins never drop their gaze long into the finish. A cellaring special."

93 Point Rated - Decanter

"From an elevated 440m high vineyard near Williamstown in the southern Barossa, this is distinctly different Cabernet. Lots of familiar varietal notes – choc-mint, cassis and fresh green leaf – but without the rigid structure or stern tannin profile of other notable Cabernet regions. It’s a confident display of ripe fruit, with a rich blackcurrant core that remains rather tightly wound. Not likely to show at its best for several years, but with the legs to last in the cellar."
