Tasting Notes:

The wine has intense dark chocolate and plum aromas, while these components carry through to the palate added mocha; spice and pepper fill the mouth. Velvety tannins and lush rich fruit combine to deliver structure and balance offering enjoyment now and over the next 10 plus years from vintage.

Technical:

Twisted Trunk Reserve Shiraz is named after the gnarled old vines that produce the grapes. These vines were planted in 1865 and continue to produce extremely small quantities of superlative quality grapes. This outstanding wine was made by iconic trophy winning winemaker Joanne Irvine. Fermented in traditional open fermenters, hand plunged and then gently basket pressed, which allows for full flavour and colour extraction. The wine was matured in a mixture of new and 2 year old oak barrels until bottled. Jo Irvine makes the "Twisted Trunk" Reserve Shiraz for us only in the exceptional years when our grapes meet her incredibly high standards.

"From ancient vines in the Barossa Valley, planted in 1865, this is quintessential Barossa Shiraz. It is a wine which makes it so easy to see why this style is so beloved around the world. No shrinking violet here – big, bold and rich. The colour is a deep, opaque maroon, while the nose offers us chocolate, plums, black fruits, coffee beans, mocha and more. Rich, plush, dense, yet balanced, as we move to the palate, there is cassis, more chocolate, blueberries, blackberries and cocoa powder. Balanced, full of flavour, well-structured and with soft, silky tannins, but it is this sweet core of choc/cherry that appeals so much. Will sail through a decade or more. Love it."
