Slightly cloudy red colour with a light red hue. Alluring aromas of violets, ripe cherries and strawberries laced with clove are delivered with plenty of intensity. Hints of sour cherries, forest floor and spicy fresh herbs are also apparent. Delicious ripe cherry and strawberry fruits show terrific power and drive across the palate. Underneath are elements of forest floor, subtle clove and spiced fresh herbs. Bright acidity and polished tannins lead into a lengthy finish that’s quite moreish.
Escarpment fashions stunning Pinot Noir wines from the Martinborough district in New Zealand. Part of our ethos is to explore boundaries and create wines of interest and complexity. The Noir label brings together 35 years of wine making experience in New Zealand, creating a soft, bright, fruit forward wine which can be enjoyed immediately or will cellar successfully for a number of years. 100% Martinborough hand harvested fruit has been open top fermented. After a total vat time of 21 days the wine was pressed off and barrel aged for 11 months. Bottled without filtration. Structure and texture sit perfectly with ripe fruit flavours and combine with intriguing complexity.
Bob Campbell - The Real Review
"Delicately-scented pinot noir with floral, violet, cherry and savoury, dried herb flavours. A supple, medium-bodied wine in a drink-me-now style."
Huon Hooke - The Real Review
"Medium to light ruby colour with a trace of purple in the rim, the aroma sappy and cherry/plum-skinsy, with fruit to the fore. It's light-bodied and finishes with a subtle kick of tannin, but the style is more easily accessible young than usual for this maker. Very appealing. (A new district blend, with 25-30% whole bunches) "
