- SOURCED FROM AUSTRALIA'S PREMIER COOL CLIMATE PINOT NOIR GROWING REGION
Surprisingly dark to look at (heavy purples, deep pinks—auberginesque), this is a slightly more savoury, intense take on a Tasmanian Pinot Noir. Sour cherry, vanilla and smoked charcuterie lead the nose, with the cherry carrying through to the palate, where things tarten and spice up a little: pepperberry, hawthorn, redcurrant and cranberry all present before some lifted savoury notes (nods to the Coal Valley, but nothing too heavy) and medium tannins round things out.
95 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion
"Hand-picked and bunch-sorted, crushed, open-fermented, 11 days on skins, matured in used French oak for 8 months. An unexpectedly expressive bouquet of red flowers and warm baker's spices, the long, juicy palate with layers of fruits ranging from pomegranate to plum."
92 Point Rated - Huon Hooke The Real Review
"Dark colour. Black cherry, sweetly rich, ripe bouquet. Soft, fleshy full palate. Query a hint of VA (Volatile acidity)? Voluptuous, lovely."
92 Point Rated - Nick Butler The Real Review
"Dark cherry red colour with a healthy lustre. Damson plums, oak and bunch-spice, licorice and marachino cherries. Loads of sinew matched with just enough flesh. Needs time. Firm, serious, and built for a bright future."
Tasmania is regarded as Australia’s premier cool climate Pinot Noir growing region. Domaine A Pinot Noir is a substantial style with fine tannic structure and great longevity. The small 2ha plot of low yielding Pinot Noir vines is situated on the highest part of the vineyard slope at Domaine A. Low yields of 4.5 tonnes per ha and small, concentrated berries mean it takes two vines to make a single bottle of fine Domaine A Pinot Noir. Winemaking includes small batch open fermentation, gentle hand plunging and maturation in seasoned French oak barriques for approximately 18 months to ensure true varietal expression. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
