Purpled crimson. Magically entwined with elegant hints of cherry, raspberry, terracotta, cocoa, walnut, and Turkish delight. The flourishing perfume continues to rise with an ever-present core appearing as the seamless spine. Harmoniously, these characters gracefully nuance, reinforce and offer evolution. A harmonious composition of spice, fruit, glycerin and chalky velvet produce an aristocratic experience that is nearly limitless in its depth of expression. The palate is bright and taught with natural acid however it is incredibly layered and deeply concentrated with silky smooth extract. The impressive purity of the fruit, alone , ushers superlatives however it is the fine boned and seamlessly structured palate, coupled with an air of effortless power that remains the most haunting element to this exceptional old vine Grenache.
Clarendon Hills makes an array of 6 single vineyard old vine Grenache each from 80-100 year old vineyards. The Onkaparinga Grenache vineyard is located within the foothills of McLaren Vale and was planted in the 1920's atop some of the worlds oldest geology. The result is truly magical.
97 Point Rated - Joe Czerwinski Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The 2015 Onkaparinga Grenache shows amaro-like complexity in its aromas of orange rind and Asian spices, then it adds ripe strawberries to the mix. It's full-bodied, rich and concentrated; tannic but oh so good, it ends with almost reverberating vitality and tremendous length."
90 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion
"Pale red in comparison to the other Clarendon Grenaches. Very much in the secondary realm, fresh leather, cedar and brown spices and star anise. Oak certainly a feature, but surprisingly sleek across the palate, a line of red fruit meshed with bright acidity and chalky drying tannins."
