Tasting Notes:

At Abbey Rock Wines, we are passionate about producing elegant wines that reflect the cool climate and rich terroir of Coonawarra, a region renowned for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Known for its well-established vines, viticultural excellence, and world-class wines, Abbey Rock is committed to crafting small batch wines with a focus on quality and refinement. Our flagship wine, the King of Coonawarra, is the Cabernet Sauvignon, and the 2021 vintage beautifully expresses the region’s distinctive red soils and cool climate.

Sourced from older, low-yielding vineyards, the fruit for this wine is hand-picked in small batches, ensuring that only the best fruit makes it into the final blend. The wine spends extended time on skins to highlight the rich fruit flavors before being aged in French oak barrels. The careful selection of individual barrels is key to crafting the perfect blend, and after barrel ageing, the wine is bottled with minimal fining and filtration to preserve its purity and character.

The 2021 Abbey Rock Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep crimson wine with a violet edge, offering lovely dark berry characters complemented by well-integrated French oak. On the palate, the wine is fruit-forward, with prominent flavors of blackberry, red fruits, and a touch of capsicum, leading to a finish of fine-grained tannins and refined oak. This is a medium-bodied, richly flavored wine that captures the essence of Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, with balance and elegance that will age beautifully.

Rated 95 points and a Gold Medal winner at the Australian Wine Showcase Magazine, this wine is an outstanding example of Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. The previous vintage was also highly praised, receiving 94 points and 5 stars from Sam Kim of Wine Orbit

Accolades & Awards:

95 Point Rated - Australian Wine Showcase Magazine

"Solid fruits on nose, with a nice minty edge. Palate is full of dense berry fruit that has nice firm spice and finish."

92 Point Rated & 4.5 Stars - Sam Kim Wine orbit

"It's attractively fruited and fragrant on the nose, showing cassis, dark plum, thyme, and roasted almond characters. The palate displays excellent weight and fine flow, beautifully structured by polished tannins, with a long and flavoursome finish. At its best: now to 2033. $60.00."

"Beautifully fruited and inviting, the bouquet presents aromas of blackcurrant, dried herbs, fennel, and toasted nuts. The palate displays good weight and succulent fruit flavours, well supported by a silky texture and chalky tannins, finishing with a lingering and finely dry finish. At its best: now to 2030. $60.00. Aug 2025."
