The 1838 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is a bold yet approachable expression of South Australian Cabernet, offering exceptional value without compromising quality. Deep intense purple in the glass with a vibrant red rim, this wine opens with lifted aromas of ripe red and black berries, accented by subtle hints of blueberry, coffee, dark chocolate, and a touch of aniseed for added complexity.
On the palate, it’s all about vibrant fruit flavour – juicy dark berries, ripe plum, and a soft thread of oak spice that rounds out the profile. The tannins are smooth and gentle, creating a plush mouthfeel and a pleasing, easy-drinking finish. This is a classic, fruit-forward Cabernet style made for everyday enjoyment, but with a depth that punches well above its price point.
Accolades for this vintage include a 93 Point Rating & Gold Medal from Wine Showcase Magazine, as well as a 91 Point Rating by Sam Kim, Wine Orbit – a testament to its consistent quality and drinkability.
A top-value red perfect for casual dining, this wine is ideally paired with roast lamb stuffed with garlic and rosemary, grilled sausages, beef ragu pasta, or even a mushroom and lentil pie for a hearty vegetarian match. Enjoy now or over the next few years while the fruit is vibrant and lively.
Fruit was sourced from several well-known growers in South Australia. The different sites allowed us to pick the fruit over a period of 2 weeks allowing each vineyard to develop differing characters to compliment each other. The result is intensely flavoured wines due to the care and attention these growers give them. This wine was fermented warm and received pump overs on a daily basis during their fermentation. Select parcels of the wine received aging with oak contact to add another level of complexity without overpowering the fruit.
