Tasting Notes:

The Schild Estate Three Springs Barossa Valley Shiraz 2021 is a commanding, ultra-premium expression of Barossa Shiraz, delivering extraordinary concentration, structure and finesse from one of the region’s most highly regarded vineyard sites. Sourced from the historic Three Springs vineyard in Rowland Flat — home to the original Schild family homestead and positioned at 380 metres above sea level — this release captures the intensity and elegance that only low-yielding, elevated Barossa vineyards can achieve.

In the glass, the wine reveals a deep, inky crimson hue, opening with powerful aromas of blackberry, ripe plum and dark cherry layered with dark chocolate, cracked black pepper and savoury spice. The palate is full-bodied, rich and velvety, driven by concentrated dark fruit flavours wrapped around firm yet beautifully polished tannins. Expert oak integration adds further depth and complexity without overshadowing the purity of fruit, while the finish remains remarkably long, smooth and refined. Despite its immense power, the wine maintains precision and balance, showcasing the hallmark sophistication of elite Barossa Shiraz.

Critically acclaimed across the board, this release achieved an exceptional 97-point rating from Sam Kim alongside 96-point ratings from Ken Gargett, Ray Jordan and the Halliday Wine Companion, firmly establishing it among the standout Barossa Shiraz releases of the vintage. With its depth, structure and pedigree, it offers outstanding cellaring potential while already drinking beautifully with decanting.

This prestige Shiraz pairs effortlessly with slow-cooked beef cheeks, chargrilled rib-eye steak, lamb shanks, venison and rich game dishes, where its intensity and layered complexity truly shine.

Accolades & Awards:

97 Point Rated - Sam Kim Wine Orbit

"Super rich and lavish, the wine shows dark and purple fruit intensity, clove, star anise, cedar and chocolate tart characters on the nose, followed by a powerfully concentrated palate offering velvety texture backed by layers of silky tannins. Opulent and delectably expressed. At its best: now to 2038."

96 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion

"Super deep crimson in the glass with opulent aromas of blackberry, black cherry and boysenberry fruits cut with hints of clove, cinnamon, blackstrap licorice, blackforest cake, dark chocolate bullets, cedar, vanilla bean, olive tapenade and earth. Full bodied and lush with a curtain of powdery tannin and a beautiful créme-de-cassis-like flow to the fruit. There's lots of latent power and fruit depth on display here but nothing feels heavy or overdone. Drink to: 2048"

96 Point Rated - Ray Jordan Wine Pilot

"Gosh, this is a good wine. You know that from the first aromas of perfumed dark fruits with a light lifted scented African violet and rose petal. On the palate, the plush plummy fruit characters come together with spice and dark chocolate rolling effortlessly off the palate as it gathers momentum to a long finish. Classy wine here."

96 Point Rated - Ken Gargett Wine Pilot

"A superb example of what a stellar vintage 2021 is. Under diam. The colour here is maroon/purple. Everything about this wine just screams big, bold, beautiful and Barossan. The noise is awash in flavours such as chocolate, plums, mocha, licorice and a hint of peppermint. Seductive in the extreme with that typical supple texture, there is juicy acidity and silky tannins. A full flavoured style exhibiting great length. Love it. A fifteen year proposition."

95 Point Rated - Sean Mitchell Grape Observer

"This is an outstanding shiraz from Schild Estate in the Barossa Valley. The vineyard for this wine is located in Rowland Flat, south of Tanunda. Labelled as the “Three Springs”, the wine is a rich and generous shiraz in the traditional Barossa style. The 2021 vintage has brooding aromas of dark plums and mulberries, with some dried herbs tucked underneath. The palate is full bodied, rich, deep and intense. Dark fruit and cedar characters fortify its generous length on the finish. You can drink this wine now. Nonetheless it should improve for another decade and have a drinking window into the 2040s."

95 Point Rated - Mike Bennie WBM

"A little extra bottle age and we have a wine settling into some faint secondary characters, toastiness, dried fruits, choc-biscut and prune. Around this, plush, lush, ripe plum, same raspberry jame notes and a good dose of sweet, woody spice. It flows well and feels pillowy and sumptuous to taste. It has a groove on."
