Reynella Shiraz is the perfect embodiment of what McLaren Vale Shiraz should be: it is big, bold, and dark with flavours of blackberry and plum laced with dark chocolate. Ripe tannins and silky plum and blueberries play in your mouth in a burst of wonderful flavours. The nose is a fresh bouquet of blackberry with hints of oak. This wine pairs perfectly with aged cheddar, dark chocolate, barbequed meats, and grilled or roast beef.
Matured in French and American oak barriques for 18 months. Impenetrable inky black colour with a very deep dark red black hue. The nose sees pronounced liquorice and ripe blackberry aromas sailing from the glass overlaying dark plum, vanillin cedar, hints of dark chocolate and spice. Quite elegant and supple in its mouthfeel, lush flavours of blackberries, dark plums and liquorice decorate the palate underpinned by vanillin oak and spice. A youthful core of acidity and finely grained yet sturdy tannins provide the structure. Good length with a long liquorice, blackberry, dark plum, vanillin cedar and spice aftertaste.
95 point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion
"40yo vines, hand-picked, open-fermented, pressed via the 97yo basket press, matured in French and American barriques for 18 months. If you are looking for a full-bodied shiraz with real class, it's hard to go past this. It offers regional bitter chocolate, blackberry and plum fruit, oak and tannins lined up in disciplined support. A super-long future ahead."
93 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front
"40+ year old vines. Basket pressed. Open fermenters. Matured in a combination of French and American oak for 18 months.Blackberried fruit, earth and spice notes, toast, malt and dark chocolate. It has body but it finishes dry, almost stern. It feels old school in a good, compact, well-managed, clinical way. In fact it feels impeccable. You’d imagine that this will live and mature over a long period.
