Tasting Notes:

The Mr Mick Clare Valley Grenache 2023 continues the long-standing philosophy of the legendary K.H. “Mr Mick” Knappstein, championing approachable, innovative wines crafted with generosity and drinkability at their core. Produced by renowned Clare Valley winemaker Tim Adams, this un-oaked style draws inspiration from the popular fresh Grenache expressions of south-east France and Spain.

Youthful vines planted on the rich soils of the Rogers vineyard deliver vibrant red-berry fruit, harvested at ideal ripeness and fermented under controlled conditions to preserve purity and brightness. After a week on skins, the wine was pressed gently, with hard pressings kept separate to minimise any harsh tannin or phenolic influence, ensuring a soft, supple and fruit-focused expression. With no oak ageing, the wine remains a pure celebration of Grenache fruit, displaying lively red berries, a touch of varietal spice and mellow natural tannins that contribute to its irresistible charm.

Fresh, juicy and wonderfully accessible, this style shines lightly chilled in the warmer months and has the versatility to accompany an array of cuisines throughout the year. Enjoy it with antipasto, wood-fired pizza, charcuterie platters, Asian noodle dishes, lamb koftas, tapas or simply on its own as an easy-drinking, fruit-driven Clare Valley red. Its clean, vibrant profile reflects the popularity of the modern Grenache movement, echoing the high praise received by previous vintages from critics such as Campbell Mattinson of The Wine Front, reinforcing its ongoing appeal and quality.
