Sourced from the finest parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon across three outstanding vineyards planted on Coonawarra’s famed terra rossa soils, the Icon Trophy Winning Winemakers Coonawarra Cabernet 2019 Cleanskin Dozen delivers classic regional power, structure and pedigree at exceptional value.
The 2019 vintage was textbook Coonawarra — a warm, dry summer followed by cool autumn conditions, allowing Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen slowly and evenly while retaining natural acidity and structure. A short, warm flowering period ensured excellent fruit set, producing deeply coloured berries packed with concentration and flavour.
Fermented in a combination of open and static fermenters, with extended maceration to build complexity and tannin integration, the wine was then matured for 24 months in a blend of new and second-fill French oak, adding refinement and structure without overpowering the fruit.
In the glass, it reveals a deep garnet red core. The nose is unmistakably Coonawarra — intense blackberry, cassis and dark cherry layered with mocha, chocolate and elegant violet florals, while subtle pencil shavings add classic Cabernet sophistication. The palate is rich yet controlled, delivering dark mulberry, ripe cherry and chocolate framed by seamless, long tannins. Oak and structure sit in perfect harmony, with the alcohol beautifully integrated. The finish lingers with hints of fine leather and savoury depth, signalling a wine already drinking superbly yet capable of further development.
A superb partner to chargrilled rib-eye, slow-roasted lamb shoulder, beef bourguignon or aged cheddar, this is a dozen built for collectors who appreciate serious Coonawarra Cabernet without the premium label price.
