''This year's Johann's Garden release see a blend of 60/40% grenache/mataro from the Barossa Valley, matured in seasoned oak for seven months. Ripe wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry fruit tones are underlined by hints of five-spice, ginger cake, mocha, violets, charcuterie, cold tea and earth. Quite spacious and detailed in '23 with a ginger-spice flick to the red and dark fruits. Finishes savoury and persistent.”

This wine is both fresh and solid at once. It’s also drinking like a charm right now, though it will hold and mature for quite some years to come.''

''Deep-ish red with a tint of purple; the nose is black-peppery and sooty, charcoal and dark plum aromas. Full bodied and softly textured with a fruit-sweet core, ample smooth tannins, and medium persistence. Easy drinking but has the backbone to handle heartier foods.''

''Could easily be called the versatile one such is the flowing, easy going nature of Johann’s Garden, blessed with textural qualities which immediately sets it apart as a particularly good food matching wine. However, don’t be deceived, Johann’s Garden has a history of strong cellaring potential, and 2023 is considered a “great” Barossa vintage according to the maker. Light crimson in colour, it carries a host of red fruits and intense spiciness before it, which is in keeping with its blend of Grenache (60%) and Mataro (40%).  Black cherry, plum, cranberry, a dash of raspberry sauce, supported by rosemary, black pepper and aniseed. Dressed in supple tannins, it sings now but, as already noted, its versatility also extends to further ageing.''
