Technical:

Château Tanunda was established in 1890 and is the site of some of the first vines planted in the Barossa in the 1840s as well as the Valley’s first winery. The Châ teau is an Australian heritage icon whose grand buildings, magnificent gardens and prime vineyards are owned by the Geber family. In the Barossa, the family continue their own tradition of fine winemaking which spans over three centuries. The Terroirs of the Barossa highlights the unique wine flavor characteristics within the individual subregions, or ‘Parishes’ in the Barossa. These differences stem from the relationships between man and place, with soils, climate zones, viticulture, aspects and water access, all playing important roles in the flavor of the grapes of these sites. From the northern district of Ebenezer, home to some of the greatest vineyards in Australia known for their great ageability and velvety tannins.

Accolades & Awards:

95 Point Rated - Sam Kim Wine Orbit

"The varietal expression is loud and clear in this delectable red; the fragrant bouquet shows blackberry, plum jam, toasted spice and vanillin oak characters, followed by a concentrated palate that is supple and expansive. Dense yet silky, and finishes fabulously long and appealing. At its best: now to 2030."The varietal expression is loud and clear in this delectable red; the fragrant bouquet shows blackberry, plum jam, toasted spice and vanillin oak characters, followed by a concentrated palate that is supple and expansive. 94 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion

"From the northwest quadrant. Always been there, but the district has only recently gained respect, particularly as the producer of the Barossa Valley's most powerful wines. Jam, black forest, oak, licorice, dark chocolate. Gets away from the alcohol heat with ease."

94 Point Rated – The Real Review Huon Hooke

"Shiraz wines from this region are typically characterised by lifted aromas of lavender and spice. The palate is full of red fruits, leather, cedar and fine, talc like tannins. From the northern district of Ebenezer, home to some of the greatest vineyards in Australia known for their great ageability and soft tannins."

91 Point Rated - Gary Walsh - The Wine Front

"Cocoa and coconut, mint and blackberry, sage and lavender. It’s full-bodied, dark chocolate and black fruit, generous toasted vanilla and coconut oak, grainy tannin, almost sticky on the finish, with a bit of warmth coming through. Thumps along and delivers a saline and salubrious traditional style."
