Specifications:
Vintage:
Source/Region:

Barossa Valley, South Australia

Grape Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Cellaring: Drink now or cellar long term
Bottle Top: Cork
Alcohol Content: 14.50
Standard Drinks: 8.60
Rating: 95
Tasting Notes:

Deep magenta in colour with a vibrant nose of dark fruit, chocolate, vanilla and cinnamon aromas. An exotic and full-bodied palate driven by flavours of fruits of the forest, blackcurrant and a hint of savoury spice bound together by succulent fine-grained tannins. A wine of great length which will reward many years in the cellar.

Technical:

The grapes are destemmed, but not crushed, and spend seven days on their skins in open fermenters with twice daily hand-plunging and pumping over of the cap to more gently extract colour, flavours and tannins. This is followed by careful basket pressing and malolactic fermentation in a combination of new and seasoned French barriques prior to 18 months maturation in our cellars. In keeping with our non-interventionalist winemaking style, we neither fine nor filter this wine.

50 year Old Cabernet Sauvignon Vines represents less than 2% of the region plantings. Our vineyard is from the heart of the Valley Floor in Bethany – where the first village was settled in the Barossa Valley and the first vines in the Barossa Valley were planted.

Accolades & Awards:

96 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion

"From vines in the heart of Bethany, small open fermenters, matured in French oak for 18 months. It's the great '17 vintage that makes this wine stand out, the cool season more suited to cabernet than any other red variety in the Barossa Valley."

95 Point Rated - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Magnificent, complex and engaging, this stunning rendition shows blackcurrant, dark plum, spicy oak, thyme and cocoa notes on the nose. It’s equally impressive on the palate with excellent concentration and richness, wonderfully complemented by polished tannins and velvety mouthfeel. At its best: now to 2037."

90 Point Rated -  Huon Hooke The Real Review

"Deepish red to brick-red colour with a touch of development. The bouquet has leathery elements and savouriness to burn, the tannins are very drying and powdery, leaving an almost palpable residue on the tongue…Cellaring may be reap rewards. January 2020 Drink 2020-2032"

95 Point Rated - Wine Business Magazine

"An incredibly powerful Cabernet that feels stoic in the glass- big colour, big and rich fruit character, big and smooth tannins all feature. It stains the palate with fruit, spice and light oak character, rolls impossibly long and stays around with that sweet-spice feel. All that said, it is impeccably balanced and even. A real, big treat. Density and grace hand-in-hand."
