Tasting Notes:

Chateau L’Eglise Bordeaux Cabernet Merlot 2023 is a classic Right Bank–inspired blend crafted by the Dieuxyssies family, custodians of this historic estate since 1880. With vineyards spanning 28 hectares of clay-limestone and sandy, silty soils, the estate sits within the revered Pomerol area of Bordeaux — a region synonymous with depth, elegance and longevity.

The 2023 vintage brings together 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, fermented carefully in stainless steel over 18–25 days before spending six months in French oak barrels, one-third new. The result is a wine of beautiful deep ruby colour and immediate aromatic appeal, where dark cherries, blackberries and ripe plums intertwine with delicate violet, cedar and subtle earthy undertones. Notes of vanilla and gentle grilled oak frame the fruit without overpowering it.

On the palate, the wine is supple yet structured, delivering velvety dark berry richness layered with cocoa, mocha and refined hints of tobacco and leather. There is a pleasing freshness through the mid-palate, supported by precise tannins that provide shape and length without heaviness. The finish is long, smooth and satisfying — a beautifully composed Bordeaux that balances power with finesse.

Best served between 16–18°C, this Cabernet Merlot blend shines alongside roasted lamb, chargrilled rib-eye, beef bourguignon, duck confit or aged cheeses such as Comté or mature cheddar. The structure also allows for short to medium-term cellaring, where additional savoury complexity will gently unfold.

From one of Bordeaux’s long-standing family estates — producers associated with multiple 100-point rated wines by Robert Parker — this limited 2023 release represents outstanding pedigree and remarkable value from a historic name.
