A massive all-encompassing nose but once allowed to breathe you will find this mellows. Dark plum and cranberry notes with leather saddle and earth which indicates the age whilst pepper, dark chocolate, and black currants all play a role here. The oak influence is obvious despite its age and highlights the quality of the new oak used. The palate is concentrated and straight up its no shrinking violet, offering up tremendous texture and richness with notes of dark plum, cranberry, black olive, saddle leather, alcohol and scorched earth. Brooding and densely packed, this style of wine requires decanting and time to breathe to soften prior to consuming although will be cellared prior to release the wine has the fruit, alcohol and tannin structure to ensure cellaring for many more years where it will continue to evolve.
Kilikanoon Omen Shiraz 2015
Kilikanoon has a history of making some of the best Shiraz wines from prestige regions across South Australia, though today we focus our efforts wholly in Clare. This doesn’t mean however that we weren’t carefully maturing a number of the very best wines from our history. The Omen Shiraz draws on this multi region experience to craft a unique and complex wine.
Individual parcels of fruit from our Barossa and Clare Valley vineyards were fermented separately and matured in seasoned French oak puncheons. Only four barrels were then carefully selected, two from each region, and combine to create a 50/50 blend.
The Omen Shiraz is a blend of the very best Clare and Barossa Valley Shiraz from the famed 2015 vintage. It is fortuitous that both regions had outstanding conditions leading into the 2015 vintage. The combination of these into one wine allows each regions terroir to add dimension to the final blend. Clare provides the structure, elegance and red fruit characters, while Barossa adds layers of dark black fruits and spice.
Exclusively traditional techniques were used with the wine maturing in 100% new French oak hogsheads for nearly two years months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Since then, the wine has been held in the Kilikanoon cellars to further improve and mature in the bottle before release.
The Colonial Estate Richard Lander Old Vine Barossa Valley Shiraz 2021
Sourced from two vineyards in the Northern Barossa Valley sub region – the Moppa and near the Kalimna Vineyard, which is the mother vineyard of “Grange”. The vines themselves are aged between 49 and 100 years old and they are cropped, using green harvesting, at less than 3.0 tonne to the acre. Grapes were picked at dawn, it receives fermentation, which is conducted in small open top fermenters, followed by malolactic fermentation and ageing in French oak barrels.
Curtis Family Martins Vineyard Limited McLaren Vale Shiraz 2020
Curtis Family Vineyards sources fruit from a combination of owned vineyards and premium McLaren Vale growers. The blend of individual vineyard and sub-regional characteristics is the key to the resulting style. Sub regions are Blewitt Springs, McLaren Flat, Willunga and McLaren Vale.
Monolith Vintners Monolithic Old Vine Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017
The 2017 vintage will go down as one of the finest vintages in the history of the Barossa. The vintage indicated early the supreme quality that would be produced by the dry grown, old vines that yielded the fruit we isolated for this special trail blend which was only the second in our history. Good winter rains were key as was the spring rains followed by a cooler than average summer which made for the near perfect conditions to create icon Barossa Shiraz. We hand-picked the fruit and it was transported to the winery where it was gently de-stemmed into concrete open top fermenters. It was then carefully nurtured for 7 days on skins with pump overs occurring twice daily, varying in duration and intensity. When primary fermentation was almost complete, the wine was drained from the skins and the must is gently basket pressed for 8 hours. The wine was transferred into new oak to complete primary fermentation is completed and left in the same new French and American barrels where it spent the next 36 months with submerged bung with only one topping and sulphur addition. The wine was then blended, and the barrels were bottled without the use of filtration or fining.
A wonderful example of big and bold Barossa Shiraz which will stand the test of time, ensure it is allowed to breathe for at least 2 hours prior to consuming.

95 Point & 5 Star Rated - Sam Kim Wine Orbit
"A sumptuous offering, the wine has heady fragrance of dark fruit richness, vanilla, toasted spice, cocoa and cedar, leading to a brooding palate that's packed with powerful fruit flavours with seductive complexity. Opulent and flavoursome with a lingering velvety finish. At its best: now to 2036."
Ulithorne Prospera McLaren Vale Shiraz 2021
93 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front
"Shiraz with plenty of sauce. Sweet blackberry and plum flavours come liberally adorned in smoky, bacon-y oak. One sip and you’re either in love or aghast; its persona is immediately and overwhelmingly apparent. The fruit here, the juicy sweet flow of it, and the oak, so silken and smoky at once, make for pretty sexy drinking, depending of course in your tastes in wood. One thing that should be emphasised here though is that the fruit feels fresh and flowing; it’s not heavy/hot/overdone."

92 Point Rated - Ned Goodwin Mw Halliday Wine Companion
"This is a reliable address, responsible for full-weighted and powerful wines of considerable refinement, if not an older school aura. Barrel-fermented aromas of smoked meats and vanilla curd are toasty and intoxicating. Dank spice and dark plum, mosey amidst the morass. Clove, pepper and cardamon spruik a spicy finish. A throaty, nourishing wine of appeal."

Curtis Family Martins Vineyard Limited McLaren Vale Shiraz 2020
96 Point Rated - Ken Gargett Wine Pilot
"This wine is part of a limited series of McLaren Vale Shiraz from the Martins Vineyard and for me, perhaps the most impressive in the range – which is saying something as it has plenty of competition. Vibrant purple in colour, this offers a lovely seductive nose, which is deeply flavoured with blackberry notes, plums, boot leather, bergamot, black cherries and spices. Hints of oak but melding well. Dense in structure though well balanced at all times, this is very long and has satiny tannins in abundance. It should sail through a decade in the cellar, though is drinking well now. Simply a cracking McLaren Vale Shiraz. Price: $150.00; Alcohol: 14.5%"
