Tasting Notes

La Bise Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2018

La Bise Chardonnay comes from two select vineyards within the higher areas on the Adelaide Hills in the subregions of Oakbank and Piccadilly. We want the fruit flavours to shine through so the wine is not oak dominated, rather fruit first with some oak flavours. Nectarine, peach and blood orange fruit flavours backed up with almond, oatmeal and hazelnut derived from the French oak barriques.  A minerality is evident throughout the palate whilst still maintaining an opulent creaminess from the lees stirring.  The mid palate generosity is pulled into line with a fresh lime acid finish.

La Bise Adelaide Hills Field Blend 2019

A Blend of Pinot Gris, Arneis and Fiano. Three Varieties harvested together and blended at pressings to give a perfumed, fuller flavoured wine. Brosche pear and Nectarine fruits form the character of this Pinot Gris. An easy drinking wine perfect for summer. The key point of Pinot Gris is mid palate texture and richness. We work this in the winery by allowing the juice to stay on full solids for a week before we start ferment and in doing so we draw out all of the goodness and flavour from the juice and grapes that we can.”

La Bise Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris 2020

“Pinot Gris from the Kersbrook and Gumeracha vineyards of Caj Amadio. My favourite block of Pinot Gris in the Hills, east facing and a gentle slope keeps the high cropping Pinot Gris under control. Brosche pear and Nectarine fruits form the character of this Pinot Gris. An easy drinking wine perfect for summer.”

Accolades & Awards

La Bise Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2018

93 Point Rated - Sam Kim Wine Orbit

"Gorgeously fruited and inviting, the wine shows golden peach, baked fig, lemon peel, vanilla and roasted hazelnut characters on the nose with a hint of flinty complexity. It's equally satisfying on the palate, delivering lovely weight and textural mouthfeel, brilliantly supported by vibrant acidity."

92 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front

"Chardonnay from the Piccadilly Valley. It’s a sophisticated, flinty chardonnay with lots of juicy, fleshy fruit through the length of the palate and a keen persistence to the finish. Modern style of chardonnay, dripping with pear and nectarine-like flavour. Beautifully made and presented."

La Bise Adelaide Hills Field Blend 2019

93 Point Rated - Sam Kim Wine Orbit

"It’s elegant and charming with white flesh nectarine, rock melon, lime zest and subtle spice aromas on the nose, followed by a succulent palate that’s beautifully weighted and refreshing. It’s attractively textured and persistent. At its best: now to 2023."

90 Point Rated - Jeni Port Halliday Wine Companion

"What a fun grouping: pinot gris, arneis and fiano. There was co-fermentation for arneis and fiano with some skins work for 2 days, while pinot gris was sans skins. The three work well together with plenty of stone fruits, pear, spiced apple, nougat. Acidity is bright and keeps everything - including the gastric juices - working well. Gris takes the lead with lovely spice throughout."

La Bise Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris 2020

94 Point Rated - Tony Love Halliday Wine Companion

"From the renowned Amadio Vineyard at Kersbrook, whole-bunch pressed juice kept on full solids for a week before fermentation. Full flavoured pear – heading in the Buerre Bosc direction – with a delicate musk note there too. Delicious, mouth-watering texture and spice on the palate. All-round goodness."

Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front

"Pinot gris under this label always offers good flavour – as well as freshness. This 2020 release is another hit. Pear and apple flavours with a hint of smokiness, the latter a positive for the most part although the aftertaste pushes it. It remains a nice drink."

La Bise Adelaide Hills Field Blend 2019

The inspiration for this wine is to use Italian varieties in a blend to produce a fresh white style that is the best blend we can produce in any one vintage.

Three varietals are from a single vineyard at 420 m altitude in Kersbrook, a sub region in the Adelaide Hills. The higher 420 m altitude guarantees quality and perfect ripening for the grapes. The fruit is harvested separately as the optimal ripeness for these three varietals are quite different from each other and the end result is a refreshing wine showing lovely texture and appealing characters of stone fruit and citrus.
