Tasting Notes:

Hemera Estate Aurora Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013

A wonderfully integrated nose of dark briary fruits and creamy, spicy oak unravels slowly from the glass. Whilst intense and powerful, the nose has lingering, elegant notes of vibrant fruits and summer pudding. The palate is full and rich with the soft dark black and blue fruits being framed by spiced mocha oak characters. Whilst powerful and rich the palate retains a refreshing drive and fruit dominance. The quality of the wine is exemplified in the long, lingering finish.

Hemera Estate Barossa Valley Shiraz 2014

A glass staining ruby purple in colour this wine leaps from the glass with clove spice, perfumed blue and black fruits and a hint of vanillin cream. The palate shows full ripe and dense black fruits with lighter cream and blueberry crumble characters. The ripe, textured tannins provide ample framework for the fruit and along with the fine oak influence ensure a long and structured finish redolent of dark chocolate and darker fruit.

Hemera Estate Limited Release Lynedoch Shiraz 2013

The backbone of this wine is sourced from a spectacular vineyard in the Ebenezer sub-region of the Barossa Valley. The dark inky fruits and strong, masculine tannins that this region provides are then carefully balanced with the pristine blue fruits and softer tannin profiles of the best Shiraz from our own Hemera Estate vineyards. The aim is to create a classic Barossa Valley Shiraz with the signature Hemera Estate elegance and character.

Hemera Estate Pegasus Tawny

This Tawny wine has seen extended maturation in seasoned old fortified barrels for a number of years to allow full development. Dates, prunes and sweet spices lift are evident. The palate is sweeter yet balanced with cleansing acidity and some nutty tannins from the older oak which makes this a luscious wine.

Technical:

Hemera Estate Aurora Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013

The Hemera Estate ‘Limited Release’ range is where we endeavour to present the purest expression of our vineyards. Parcels of fruit that show exceptional fruit purity, intensity and elegance are set aside at vintage and carefully matured to display their finest characteristics. If the wine lives up to these high expectations it will be bottled as part of this range.

The 2013 vintage saw very low rainfall in the winter and spring leading up to fruit ripening. This resulted in small berry and bunch formation and the commencement of vintage earlier than average. The smaller berries produced intense flavours in all varieties and excellent juice to skin ratios in reds. The resultant wines have pure varietal flavours with excellent mouth-feel and length to the palate.

Hemera Estate Barossa Valley Shiraz 2014

The 2014 Vintage saw the hottest summer recorded in South Australia. With 13 days reaching 40 degrees or above and normally followed by strong winds at night. This resulted in lower crops than the average and early ripening across most varieties. After the heat, a rain event caused the most February rain for 30 years, providing beneficial moisture and berry flavour to develop alongside sugar formation. The resultant wines are abundant in fruit with elegant mouth-feel.

Selected parcels of some of the best fruit were earmarked early on for this Shiraz. Sourced both from our own Estate blocks as well as very special local growers these vineyards showcase the a seamless and fine blend of Shiraz in the trademark Hemera Estate elegant house style.

Once the grapes have been identified to be of optimum ripeness the parcels are brought into the winery where they are gently crushed into the open top fermenters. After pressing, the free-run and pressed wine are combined based on taste before being transferred into a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels for 18 months of maturation. Each parcel is kept separate throughout matura- tion with careful barrel selection taking place before the final wine is blended.

Hemera Estate Pegasus Tawny

The wines in this range are intended to be approachable styles of wine that are ideally suited to casual get-togethers and offer exceptional value for money. Whilst drinking well upon release they still have great aging potential and follow the Hemera Estate principle of ‘Intensity, Structure and Elegance’. Fruit driven and full of flavour these wines over deliver on quality.

This wine is Non-Vintage (NV), meaning that it has been selected frona a number of different parcels of wines over many years of age to make a consistent blend of style.

Berries the parcels are brought into the winery where they are gently crushed into the air bag press. Here the free-run and pressing juice are combined together abd trans- ferred into stainless steel tanks. The fermentation took place at the the cool tempera- ture of 10-14 degrees for maximum fruit retention. Once the desired sugar level is reached, brandy spirit is added to halt the ferment and the the wine is transferred to old fortified barrels for it’s long maturation.

Varietal composition: Various red varieties, predominately Shiraz/Grenache.

Crushed and destemmed, open-fermented, matured in new and used oak for 18 months, a barrel selection. A traditional full-bodied Barossa Valley shiraz layered with black fruits; a substantial oak contribution, but the tannins are soft and supple.
