Clarendon Hills Liandra Mourvedre 2010

The Clarendon Hills Liandra Syrah opens with intense aromas of bacon fat, licorice and chocolate. Deep undertones of blackcurrant and powerful spices offer dimensional contrast. An amalgamation of richness is defined by great balance, positioned acidity and lengthy tannins. The incredible mid-palate weight provides an excellent length of intensity and considerable nuance pursues.

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2012

Blackened crimson. Perfumed roast meats and nuances of spice overlay the otherwise liquorice and black currant dominated expression. Its elegant yet full of vibrancy and its youthful vigour entertains the viewer.A long and aromatically scented structure progressively delivers the liquorice and spiced fruit in a persistent fashion. Velvety tannin and balanced acidity echoâs both potential and proposition. Smoothed extract and overall polish ensures immediate satisfaction.

Clarendon Hills Liandra Mourvedre 2013

Deep ruby crimson, some light purpling. A polished face is accented by lavender and violets which really contrast the focused background of coco and creamy blueberry. The evolving, nuanced aroma amalgamates dried stone fruit, white pepper, sarsaparilla, kirsch liqueur, Cherry-Ripe bars, roses, fresh cut mulberry, blackcurrant and fresh tobacco. It leaves you searching for the limit on this pure and elegant example. Acidity, extract and fruit purity are showcased in this layered and multi-dimensional example. The fruit vibrancy will be best enjoyed in the first 12 years of its life and will become increasingly savoury profiled as it comfortably marches on for another 10+.

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2008

Smooth and impressive, our Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah opens with big aromas of smoked meat, coffee and humidor to balance the black cherry background. Round, plush tannins ornately integrate with hints of brown spice for an unforgettably complex Syrah.

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2009

Totally opaque black colour with deep black crimson red hue. Intense aromas of ripe dark plum and blackberry are to the fore followed by a hint of liquorice and cedar. The palate possesses great generosity with ripe, decadent fruit flavours of dark plum, blackberry and liquorice followed by some cedar and spice. Plushly textured with velvety tannins. Superb depth with long rich aftertaste of dark plum, blackberry, liquorice and spice.

Technical:

Clarendon Hills Liandra Mourvedre 2010

Clarendon Hills are vineyard and varietal expressionists who strive for purity and perfection and seek to portray the story of the individual vineyard 'Terroir' within their wines. Clarendon Hills’ collection of the old vine vineyards in sub-regions of McLaren Vale assists in defining their international pedigree for making world class wines that rate extremely highly among the international press. Among the 9 single vineyards of Syrah is the Liandra vineyard which is located within the Blewitt Springs sub region of McLaren Vale, South Australia. All of the wines at Clarendon Hills are made by hand and are crafted using only natural processes and ingredients.

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2012

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2009

2009 is one such vintage with all varietals showing outstanding form and mid to long term cellaring potential. All the Clarendon Hills wines are sourced from single vineyard sites from vines mostly around 85 years old. Wild ferments and zero fining or filtration are the norm. Bratasuik's sons, Adam and Alex, have now joined the operation. An opulent Clarendon Hills expression.

Accolades & Awards:

Clarendon Hills Liandra Mourvedre 2010

95 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion

"Dense, deep, purple-crimson; has the weight, depth, textural complexity and flavour richness typical of Clarendon Hills, but no other maker. Fruit, oak and tannins are welded together in a seamless stream that will grace any red meat dish. The lack of coarse extraction is remarkable."

Clarendon Hills Liandra Mourvedre 2010

93 Point Rated - Jeremy Oliver

"One of Australia’s iconic producers, Clarendon Hills marches confidently to its own drum, crafting deeply flavoured, profoundly structured and often rather savoury and Old Worldly reds from shiraz and grenache from a variety of sites in the higher Clarendon subregion of McLaren Vale. Each are made and bottled separately, so a new vintage tasting of Clarendon Hills wine will take more than half an hour! It’s also home to some steadily improving cabernet sauvignons and some slightly idiosyncratic Mourvèdre and Merlot. The winery’s two top red wines, the Astralis Syrah and the Romas Grenache, easily justify their 5-Star status. The Domaine Clarendon Syrah is an exciting and relatively new project that should gain more standing and status as the vineyard matures. I love the ambition and attitude behind Clarendon Hills. It’s pushing the envelopes of style and quality, and it’s spectacular when it succeeds."

Clarendon Hills Liandra Mourvedre 2010

91+ Point Rated - Lisa Perrotti-Brown Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Liandra Vineyard Syrah reveals expressive aromas of mulberries, black cherries and wild blueberries with hints of soy, yeast extract and baking spices plus a whiff of rose petals. Full-bodied and showing great poise and intensity in the mouth, it has a wonderful core of red berry and spice flavors framed by medium to firm levels of rounded tannins and lifted acidity through a long finish"

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2010

94 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion

"Full crimson-purple; in mainstream Clarendon Hills style, medium- to full-bodied, with obvious French oak on the bouquet and running through the textured palate; spicy black fruits and a touch of licorice make the running; alcohol and dusty tannins have been held in restraint."

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2010

92 Point Rated - Jeremy Oliver

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2010

Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Bakers Gully Vineyard Syrah presents aromatic red currant and red cherry notes intermingled with suggestions of green peppers, earth and bark. Full-bodied with a medium to firm level of slightly astringent tannins, the lively acid carries through a long, slightly herbal finish. Approachable now, it should drink best to 2020+. "

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2012

93 Point Rated - Jeremy Oliver

"A rich, typically ripe Australian shiraz whose concentrated, confiture-like bouquet of cassis, blackberries, raspberries and blood plums has a meaty background of chocolatey oak, musky spice and a hint of raisin. It’s luscious and opulently flavoured, powerfully steeped in briary cassis, mulberry, blackberry and dark plum flavours, tightly knit with oak and reveals some leathery development. It finishes savoury, with a hint of licorice, dark olive and roasting pan."

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2012

92 Point Rated - Lisa Perrotti-Brown Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Deep garnet/purple, the 2012 Syrah Bakers Gully reveals attractive cassis, blackberries, black cherries, earth, aged beef and game notes with cloves and tobacco hints. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, the palate is packed with flavor and framed by firm, fine tannins through the long and meaty finish."

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2012

92 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion

"Excellent depth of colour. Mid- to full-bodied with tar, blackberry, dried herb and sweet redcurrant flavours. Choc-coffee notes have melted entirely into the fruit. Succulent. No problems drinking this now."

Clarendon Hills Liandra Mourvedre 2013

95 Point Rated - James Halliday Wine Companion

"Dark, dense red with the blackest of black fruits, inky, deep and impenetrable, lashings of texture and extract completing the picture. Despite its size, it manages to remain balanced, and finishes long and intensely."

Clarendon Hills Liandra Mourvedre 2013

91 Point Rated - Lisa Perrotti-Brown Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2013 Liandra Mourvedre (the last year this cuvée was made) features plenty of amaro-like spice layered over red berry flavors. It's full-bodied and structured but not ungenerous, with a plump mid-palate and ample concentration. It should be ready to drink in just a couple more years."

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2008

92 Point Rated & Top Rated 2008 McLaren Vale Shiraz - Huon Hooke The Real Review

"Deep purple/red colour. Savoury, cedar and toast, earthy bouquet, not so fruity or jammy. Slightly leaner style of palate at first, with lots of savoury, drying tannin. A hint of blackberry conserve later. Emerged as a powerful, concentrated, fleshy and fruit-sweet shiraz with no overripe notes. Nice wine in a big, bold style"

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2008

Lisa Perrotti-Brown Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The 2008 Bakers Gully Vineyard Syrah gives slightly baked fruit aromas of blackberry pie, spice box and vanilla, stewed cherries, licorice and coffee grounds. Full-bodied with a medium level of soft tannins, it’s well made but a little lacking in structure and finesse, finishing long and fruity."

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2008

Joe Czerwinkski -Wine Enthusiast Magazine

"The Baker's Gully Syrah is the entry-level offering from Clarendon Hills, but it remains a very good wine. It's medium to full in weight, with some alcoholic warmth and hints of slightly raisined fruit, yet charms for its velvety-soft tannins and aromas of chocolate and baking spices"

Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2009

91 Point Rated - Lisa Perrotti-Brown Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2009 Bakers Gully Vineyard Syrah offers notes of warmed mulberries and blueberries, prunes and hung meat with touches of tree bark, dried Mediterranean herbs and black olives. Nicely balanced in the mouth, this full bodied Syrah is well structured with crisp acid and a medium to firm level of rounded tannins going into the long and savory / dried fruit finish. Approachable now, it should drink best 2012 to 2020+. "
