The Colonial Estate Exile Barossa Valley Shiraz 2019
Deep rich and expressive bouquet with black fruits, dark chocolate and mulberries, plum and black olive. Full bodied and highly concentrated fruit with a really plush texture. The flavour concentration is powerful and yet matches with its impeccable balance and elegance. The fruit flavours of plum and black fruits, all work within the framework, which is fleshy and opulent with a chocolate character shining on the mid palate. There is a lovely spicy note along with subtle hint of oak, but this does not dominate given the powerful fruit flavour. The tannins are velvety smooth which when allowed to open up and breathe illustrate the longevity possible with a long dark seductive finish which is in a word mouthwatering.
Basedows Of Barossa Shiraz 2018
Deep brick red in colour. This wine exhibits aromas of rich, punchy spice with hints of plum jam and cracked black pepper. The palate is full and luscious and is layered with flavours of plum, spice and smoky oak. This wine has a firm fruit backbone with rich mouth filling tannins. A full bodied wine which has good length and is an excellent example of Barossa Shiraz.
The Colonial Estate Explorateur Barossa Valley Shiraz 2021
Deep purple with red brick flash around edge. Blackberry fruits with hints of licorice, oak and aniseed. The palate is softly spoken and fruit driven initially with blackberries, plums and licorice notes giving your insight into what is ahead. An approachable mid palate, which is full-flavored, while the fine-grained tannins finish with complex notes of olives, cashew nuts and oak. An alluring finish, which is moreish and smooth, yet has great length.
The Colonial Estate Emigre Shiraz 2021
Crimson red with purple flashes. A dense juicy nose with red and black forest fruits, spicy plum, black cherry, dried fruits and pepper. A classic, rich full bodied Barossa Shiraz. The wine has an array of characters with upfront plum, dark chocolate, dried figs, leather saddle and white pepper. Sweet Shiraz fruit surrounds a firm tannin backbone whilst a touch of earth and acid provides length and ensures the finish is long and voluptuous.
Normans Estate Est 1853 Vine Ancestry Shiraz 2021
Well-balanced elegant nose with soft freshly cut plum, blackberry and blueberry notes showing its youthfulness at this stage. This is complimented with star anise spice giving depth to the highly aromatic bouquet. Full and vibrant with an initial surge of juicy fruit flavours of blackberry, plum and mulberry. The oak and tannins are smooth and subtle with the under lying taste whilst some spice and natural fruit acid give length and definition. An outstanding match with all full flavoured red meat dishes. I find it goes well with the over powering delicious flavour of barbequed spare ribs!
The Colonial Estate Exile Barossa Valley Shiraz 2019
The finest selection of 100-year-old dry grown vines, which are pruned severely and receive two runs of green harvesting finally producing one tonne to two tonnes per acre. The grapes were then hand-picked, and the grapes sorted. The 2018 vintage was characterized by steady ripening of fruit and we were able to select individual blocks in the vineyard to get the very best fruit flavours with some tight ripe tannins. The wine is fermented in vats after extreme cold maceration. The wines have their malolactic in new French oak and are thereafter in the same oak for 24 months prior to bottling with minimal filtration and then further aging in bottle.
Basedows Of Barossa Shiraz 2018
A mild winter and a drier than normal spring led to an early flowering and fruit set for the Barossa vineyards. A hot start to summer meant that ripening occurred early and the vintage started on the 9th February with all varieties ripening in short succession. The conditions led to an excellent growing season with the reds full of density, colour and rich flavour. Despite lower than average yields, the quality of the wines from the 2019 Barossa vintage is set to be exceptional. The fruit comes from the Tanunda Hill Vineyard, located on Gomersal Road at Sheoak Log. The vineyard was established in 1999 and is planted to 10 different varieties.
The Colonial Estate Emigre Shiraz 2021
Sourced from two vineyards in the Northern Barossa Valley sub region – the Moppa and near the Kalimna Vineyard, which is the mother vineyard of “Grange”. The vines themselves are aged between 49 and 80 year sold and they are cropped, using green harvesting, at less than 3.0 tonne to the acre. Grapes were picked at dawn, it receives fermentation, which is conducted in small open top fermenters, followed by malolactic fermentation and ageing in 100 per cent new French oak barrels.
Normans Estate Est 1853 Vine Ancestry Shiraz 2021
Sourced from multiple sites in South Australia from vines aged from 35 - 80 years of age. The wine was fermented in small stainless steel fermenters to retain concentrated fruit flavours. To complete the fermentation process and maturation the wine went into mostly old oak barrels with a small percentage of new oak for a period of 12 months. This enabled the use of the finely toasted oak barrels to slowly infiltrate the highly concentrated fruit flavour creating a well-balanced yet complex tannin structure.
