Tasting Notes

Clare Hills Clare Valley Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2018 By Neil Pike

Pale green/straw in appearance and has gentle tropical fruits with some subtle herbal characteristics playing a supporting role. There is also a little stone fruit and a some of our regional flinty/slatey character in the mix as well. The palate is fresh, crisp and dry with a little texture kicking in at the end giving the wine some extra length and backbone.

Niche New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Medium Straw with translucent green tones. A classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc displaying ripe passion fruit lime zest and subtle capsicum characters. It’s juicy and vibrant on the palate with zingy acidity and easy flowing texture. A clean minerally character runs through the wine, which combines well making a tasty and friendly wine with plenty of appeal.

Coopers Creek Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is always very pale when it is young. As this wine ages, it will develop straw and green-gold tints. A melange of gooseberry, passionfruit, and nectarine back. This wine has a wonderfully inviting palate. It is rich and fleshy, yet retains classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc raciness.

Motueka Vineyards Nelson Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Wirrega Vineyards Limestone Coast Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Technical

Clare Hills Clare Valley Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2018 By Neil Pike

The vintage was shaped by a typically cool winter and spring, but with below average rainfall. Timing of budburst and flowering were pretty much normal and harvest commenced on 14th February for us. We experienced above average temperatures during January, but February and March were quite mild with no extended periods of heat, receiving virtually no rain in either month. The 2018 vintage will be seen as another really good vintage in Clare and is possibly comparable to recent quality years such as 2016, 2013, 2010 and 2007.

The grapes for this wine were both machine and hand harvested, then transported to the winery, crushed, chilled and pressed as soon as possible prior to the juice being clarified by cold settling. It was then inoculated with a neutral, pure yeast culture and fermentation carried out in stainless steel temperature controlled tanks for on average 25-30 days. The wine was stabilised, blended and then filtered prior to bottling in July 2018.

Niche New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Fruit was sourced from selected vineyard blocks in New Zealnd. After the grapes were destemmed and transferred to the tank press where the free run juice was separated and the remaining fruit lightly pressed. The juice was then allowed to cold settle to a clear state then racked into stainless steel fermenters. The juice was the inoculated with selected yeasts to add the required complexity and aromaticity. The ferment period was 14 days while the wine was kept at between 11-14 degrees. After a short period of yeast contact the wine was racked for final blending before being bottled to capture all the tropical fruit flavours.

Make to drink upon release while the fruit flavour is at its most fresh and vibrant although will develop more complexity over the short term.

Coopers Creek Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2018

As always, with this wine, we are attempting to capture the "essence of Marlborough". In total, we have selected six parcels of fruit to craft this wine, Five of the parcels are from the Wairau Valley and surrounds and there is a dash of fruit from the Awatere Valley. Eat site ads a different aspect to the finished product, thus allowing us to give you an overview of what this wonderful region can achieve with Sauvignon Blanc.

The town of Motueka in the South Island of New Zealand lies close to the mouth of the Motueka River, on the western shore of Tasman Bay. The name Motueka or more correctly Motuweka, comes from the Maori language and means ‘Weka Island’. The Weka being a small bird of the Rail Family.

Wirrega Vineyards Limestone Coast Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Wirrega Vineyards near Mundulla in South Australia’s Limestone Coast have been growing quality wine grapes for the last 25 years. The area is littered with enormous sink holes, that open up during periods of heavy rain to top up the enormous underground aquifers. Locally these sink holes are referred to as ‘Runaway’ holes
