Tasting Notes:

Crafted on the limestone and terra rossa foothills just outside Willunga, the Kings Hill McLaren Vale Shiraz 2022 captures the richness and structure that this sub-region is famed for. From a near-perfect 9/10 vintage (James Halliday), the wine delivers deep, fruit-driven concentration with a bold, modern McLaren Vale profile. In the glass, it opens with a dense purple-black hue, immediately signalling its intensity. Aromas of dark berry compote, ripe blackberry and satsuma plum rise from the glass, interwoven with hints of dark chocolate, warm spice and a whisper of vanilla from maturation in American and French oak hogsheads.

The palate continues the theme of power and polish, with generous layers of blackberry, black cherry and plum wrapped around a core of rich cocoa, subtle coffee bean and savoury spice. The structure is beautifully composed—fine, velvety tannins give the wine presence without heaviness, and the oak integration adds depth while allowing the purity of fruit to shine. A 96-point rating from Australian Wine Showcase Magazine underscores its quality, with the wine showing the hallmark density, length and concentration that define top-tier McLaren Vale Shiraz.

The finish is long, supple and warming, carried by dark fruits, spice and a lingering chocolate richness. Built for both immediate enjoyment and medium-term ageing, this single-vineyard Shiraz offers exceptional value and showcases the natural power of the Willunga sub-region.

Perfect with slow-cooked beef ribs, char-grilled steaks, peppered kangaroo, mushroom ragù, or aged cheddar, where the wine’s plush fruit, spice and velvety tannins elevate each mouthful.

Accolades & Awards:

96 Point Rated - Australian WIne Showcase Magazine

"Richly fruited with black and purple fruit, vanilla, spice, and toasty oak characters on the nose. Layered fine tannins, the finish is long and delicious."

94 Point Rated & 5 Stars - Sam Kim Wine Orbit

"It's wonderfully expressed on the nose, with sweet-fruit intensity, warm spice, cured-meat, and roasted-nut aromas. The palate delivers excellent weight and rich fruit flavours, beautifully framed by supple texture and fine tannins, making it harmonious and flavoursome with a long, silky finish. At its best: now to 2034. $150.00. Dec 2025."

96 Point Rated & 5 Stars - Russell Gallagher Vinomasters

"Deep crimson with strong colour saturation. The nose shows ripe blackberry, dark plum and black olive layered with sweet spice, mocha and subtle regional earthiness.  The palate is broad and generous, delivering dense dark fruit framed by smooth, rounded tannins substantial grip. Fruit concentration is powerful, with acidity providing structural tension to maintain balance. The mid-palate expands with warmth and depth before gradually tapering into a persistent, softly savoury finish. The use of French and American Oak is meticulous. A classic McLaren Vale Shiraz built on richness, warmth and regional generosity."
