Technical:

Sourced from a carefully selected vineyard in the cool Adelaide Hills, South Australian home of the world’s most fickle and finicky grape. The combination of altitude and micro climate magically combine to nurture this elusive variety to an ideal ripeness.

2020 was a difficult vintage for all in the hills, significant heat events from mid December to mid January reduced growth and crops. Life preserving rain at the end of January reduced stress on the vines and was followed by a cool end to the growing season. When we open and drink this wine we are reminded of the bush fires to the north of Kuitpo in the Adelaide Hills and our friends and colleagues in the industry who lost their vineyards. We were lucky and were able to pick a small harvest a month early in mid march.

Cold soaking and the inclusion of a percentage of whole bunches preceded fermentation using a yeast strain that enhances aromas and mouthfeel and produces a wine with complexity and balance. Following fermentation the wines are carefully put to seasoned French oak barrels for a short period to meld the intricate Pinot flavours. Prior to blending the individual parcels are assessed for suitability and quality. This wine has had minimal handling and only the gentlest of filtration to preserve fruit flavour
