Tasting Notes:

Lifted floral, citrus and tropical fruits are further enlivened by a bright mineral acidity that refreshes now and will support the development of classic honeysuckle and toasty, marmalade characters with further time in the bottle.

Technical:

First planted on the Estate in our founding year and with surviving vines dating back to 1927 that are amongst the oldest in the world, Marsanne is the white varietal on the winemaker’s tasting bench that sees the excitement levels rise each vintage. Fruit intensity is the hallmark of Estate releases from the 2020 vintage and the Marsanne from this year delivers to that end in spades.

Accolades & Awards:

95 Point Rated & Top 100 Wines Of The Year - James Halliday Wine Companion

"The Nagambie Lakes shared the great vintage for whites, and Tahbilk didn't miss out here, oozing with honeysuckle, lime and custard apple, the signature of acidity neatly tying the parcel up for now or in a decade or two."

91 Point Rated - Andrew Graham Oz Wine Review

"There’s been some subtle variations in style for Tahbilk’s iconic white in recent years (tight and herbal, rounder and fruity) yet this Tahbilk Marsanne 2021 feels classical. It’s svelte and built for the long term, with grapefruit acidity and just a little honeysuckle fruit, and late pear juice. It’s a wine of taut lines and yet it doesn’t feel hard – the comparison to ripe year Hunter Semillon is more apparent than ever. Yet as a young wine you’re scratching for much flavour. How patient are you? Best drinking: come back in four years, then drink over twenty."

91 Point Rated - Campbell Mattinson The Wine Front

"What does the 2021 Tahbilk classic have in store for us? Scents of lemon, wet slate, cut grass, sage leaf. Flavours decidedly lemony, tight in texture, grippy with chalky pucker, licks of sage and rosemary herbal notes, steely core and generally racy and refreshing."

Life by the Drop | Subiaco Post, Perth

"Benchmark Marsanne in any given year and most especially in the great vintage of 2021, this wine manages to convey several different things, all in concert with each other: tropical fruit (think pineapple, green mango, pink grapefruit, new season paw-paw and a little chunk of guava), minerality (brine, limestone, shale and graphite), pithy acidity and length of flavour that is downright impressive. The coolest part of this wine is its ageing potential. It has a proven track record for going decades in the cellar, and has no business being that good at this price."

Melbourne Herald Sun

"Not many would have heard of Marsanne, but the Northern Rhone native is having a moment at Nagambie Tahbilk. The wineries drawcard has an enticing, soft palate of white peaches, honeydew melon, jasmine, citrus and wonderful, minerality. The acidity is subdued. A harmonious, fine wine that’ll get finer over time in the bottle."
