Tasting Notes:

We talk of wines being of their place and this wine shows the vineyard very well – mineral and slate characters with fresh cut lime notes. The palate is balanced by generous fruit weight and lively acidity. Added earthy complexities and an unctuous texture from the oaked portion give the wine an edge and at the same time bring the wine into balance. The result is a very pleasing structure which flows to a refined textural finish with flavours of limes which blend with honeysuckle, herb and flinty mineral notes.

Technical:

Our aim in the vineyard is to grow the best fruit we can so it can speak of its home and express its personality. To do this you need healthy vines and soil. By practicing organics and incorporating some biodynamic principles we believe we are doing our best to help achieve this and let our vineyards evolve and speak as they would like.

The style of this Rock Ferry Riesling is to retain the pure fruit from the vineyard with a hint of residual sweetness, with fine acid giving a linear structure. The flavours are from the site itself.

The grapes were hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. The juice was cold settled for 48 hours prior to racking. The stainless steel portion 80% was fermented for 32 days with cultured yeast, selected to retain the varietal purity and 20% was fermented in older French oak and underwent malolactic fermentation. The wine was racked post ferment and matured on light lees for 6 months prior to bottling.

It is gloriously expressed on the nose showing lemon curd, baked apple, jasmine, honey and lime zest characters with subtle toasty complexity. The palate is concentrated and powerfully fruited, delivering excellent intensity and fine texture, brilliantly complemented by loads of tasty flavours and seamlessly integrated acidity. Generous and sumptuous with a persistent dry finish.
