This easy drinking Chardonnay offers fresh notes of apricot, peach, mandarin, and soft floral aromatics on the nose. Vanilla and almond notes support the more prominent stone fruit characters. On the palate, there are smooth, rounded, creamy notes, backed up with a bright, citrus finish. Scallops wrapped in bacon with a pecorino shaving would make for a perfect food match to this approachable wine.
The fruit comes from a selection of great vineyard sites in, or off, Marlborough’s Wairau Valley. The majority of the blend comes from 3 vineyards in the Central Wairau Valley. The soils for these sites are all silt loams overlying alluvial gravels. These sites contribute ripe stone fruit flavours and tropical aromatics. Smaller parcels of fruit from the Waihopai and Benmorven Valleys were also used selected for this wine. These vineyards are situated on clay loams and provide richly textured components with elegant acidity. Winemaking A mix of hand and machine pickedfruit was harvested and fermented with a combination of indigenous and cultured yeasts. Fermentation occurred in French oak barrels and stainless-steel tanks. The young wines were left on gross lees for 8 months prior to blending, which helped the wines develop texture and weight. Roughly 80% of the wine underwent natural malo-lactic fermentation. The 2017/2018 growing season was characterised by a hot, dry summer, with healthy looking canopies and slightly lower than average bunch counts. This was followed by an extremely wet February, and then more sun in March. Flavours developed well during the warm months and so harvest started early.
90 Point Rated - Sam Kim Wine Orbit
"Attractively fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows ripe peach, fig, nougat and roasted cashew aromas, followed by a succulent palate that is supple and creamy. The wine offers youthful charm and drinkability with appealing fruit flavours and elegant complexity."
Michael Cooper Wine Reviews
"The easy-drinking 2018 vintage is a ‘lightly oaked’ style. Light lemon/green, it is fresh, fruity and uncomplicated, with ripe, peachy, slightly appley flavours, showing decent depth, and a smooth finish."
