Glimmers, shimmers and shows it’s curves already with a simple swirl of the glass. The aromas shout Ta-daaah! – this is a very confident wine, one that is proud of its heritage, and how it dressed up for the occasion. Clear evidence of barrels having been at work, but also something intriguing. The promise of more to come is delivered on the palate: after a quick show of the dazzling fruit, this star settles, and shows it’s remarkably elegant side.
A big, beautiful and hedonistic wine with plenty of personality. Just happens to also be a Sauvignon Blanc, and we do not discriminate based on varietal names (or anything else).
The organically grown fruit was harvested by hand by Joe, Cindy and their family. Current vintage 2016 was very good for the vineyard.
Winemaking was overseen by Ray Nadeson at his Lethbridge winery. 100% fermented in French oak barrels and matured in oak for 10 months. After a light fining with bentonite (a natural, clay based fining agent), the wine was finished with a modest amount of sulphur (70 ppm), just to keep it in good shape under transport and storage.
This wine is vegan friendly.
92 Points Huon Hooke, The Real Review
Mid-yellow, bright colour, with a lift of volatile acidity (VA) the first thing that you sniff, and then vanilla and caramel: possibly a botrytis effect on the bouquet and flavour. A nutty suggestion of oak barrel. There is a touch of sweetness and the wine is lush and complex, not unlike a 'dry' style Sauternes. The VA level is acceptable in the context of the total wine. A very good and interesting drink. (Barrel-fermented, and 10 months in 30% new French oak. Vineyard is 650 metres altitude)
