Tasting Notes:

Deep purple in colour, it has aromas of dark fruit, cassis and crushed dried herbs. On the palate, it is medium weight with fully ripened dark fruits and fine integrated tannins. It has a fresh, lively finish.

Technical:

The fruit was crushed and fermented in open top fermenters. Heading down boards were used to submerge the cap to ensure maximum extraction of tannins and colour.

Fermentation was followed by two weeks of extended maceration before being basket pressed and racked to barrel for maturation and secondary malolactic fermentation. It was aged for 11 months in new and seasoned French oak.

Accolades & Awards:

Best New Wines from Australia, Josh Raynolds
"Bright purple. Dark berries and candied cherry on the oak-spiced nose. Fleshy and open-knit, offering plump blackberry and cherry-vanilla flavors and a touch of licorice. Finishes with smoky persistence and slow-building tannins that add shape and closing grip."

Wine Companion, James Halliday

"Good colour; ripe cabernet fruit is a welcome start; the oak infusion is not as helpful as it would have been if there had been greater depth to the fruit."

In James Hallidays Wine Companion Tscharke Barossa Gold Marananga Cabernet Sauvignon has been rated the equal of these big names;

God's Hill Permanent Arm Single Vineyard Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($350)

Chalk Hill Alpha Crucis McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon ($85)

Yangarra Estate Vineyard Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon ($75)

And outpointed the likes of;

Woodlands Robert Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon ($105)

Mitolo Serpico McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon  ($80)

Hollick Ravenswood Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon ($78)
