Tasting Notes:

This medium bodied wine displays notes of rich black fruits and berries complemented with elegant oak and a nuance of chocolate. Perfectly balanced, with a firm, smooth tannin structure, the wine finishes with an enduring length of ripe fruit and cedary oak.

Technical:

Fruit was harvested from 16 year old vines in exceptional vineyard sites from our GV vineyard. The vineyard is of sandy soils, with excellent draining providing ideal conditions for growing high quality fruit. Tonnages were kept low, (approximately 3 tonnes/acre) toallow for maximum quality and flavour. The must was fermented in static red fermenters and pumped over every eight hours for the ferment’s duration. Once the ferment was dry, the resulting wine was pressed off the skins and allowed to settle prior to spontaneous secondary fermentation. Separate parcels of the wine spent between 6 and 12 months in French oak barriques, after which the final blending of select parcels took place. The resulting wine exhibits lovely red fruit characters, with hints of blackcurrant and chocolate. The palate has exceptional length of flavour with good tannins which will allow the wine to cellar for the next fifteen years.

2018 was a very good year for quality and the season was warm and dry. Intense flavours came in late this year and we held off picking for as long as possible to allow maximum flavour. We were kept on our toes once we started picking as everything ripened up pretty quickly. The whites are all fruit forward, with lovely fresh acidity whilst the reds have excellent colour and flavour to match. This vintage is a beauty and subsequently we have made some cracking wines which will stand the test of time.
