Crimson in colour with brick-red hues. Attractive aromas of red currant, red cherry and raspberry, with complex nuances of rosehip and orange brûleé. Rich and fruit-driven, with hints of orange, rosehip and toffee; the palate is elegantly balanced with layers of savoury texture, clean acidity and fine-grained tannins for a long, silky finish.

Technical:

The nebbiolo grape originated in the Piedmont region of north-west Italy and is best known as the variety of Barolo and Barbaresco. It is believed that the name nebbiolo is derived from the Italian word nebbia, meaning fog. The Henschke nebbiolo vines were planted in 2002, in rocky soils on an elevated, foggy north-facing slope, at the source of the North Para River, at the top of the range overlooking the village of Eden Valley. The wine is named after the pioneering Roesler family, who managed the property as a dairy for generations. In German, Roesler is an occupational name for ‘rose grower’.

Matured in 100% seasoned French hogsheads for 16 months prior to blending and bottling.

99% Nebbiolo 1% Barbera

Accolades & Awards:

92 Point Rated - Tyson Stelzer Halliday Wine Companion

"Estate vineyard; matured 18 months in seasoned French oak hogsheads. Nebbiolo's more elegant side has been coaxed out to refreshing effect by the cool 2017 season. Rosehip, red cherries and savoury, sun-dried tomato notes are carried by tart morello cherry acidity and nicely presented, fine-ground tannins. Sensitive winemaking has fostered harmony, balance and allure, without downplaying the natural tension of the season, assuring medium-term longevity."

92 Point Rated - Huon Hooke

"Bright, light to medium-depth ruby-red colour with a tinge of purple. The bouquet superbly frames the nebbiolo grape, red cherry, rose petals, flowers of various sorts, dried herbs and pot-pourri, a really lovely fragrance. The wine is medium-bodied and intense, the flavour driving quite long into the finish ably supported by balanced acidity and super-fine tannins, which are surprisingly gentle for this grape. A delicious wine!"

92 Point Rated - Mike Bennie

"A softer, pretty expression of nebbiolo with some strong, hallmark cherry juice, cranberry drink, lipstick and rose water characters jostling around. Sits at medium weight, really silky texture, almost devoid of tannin but for a light burr over the palate late in each sip. Has some nice flesh and ripeness to the wine, a softness and coolness too. Mint, green herbs, exotic spice chime in, the finish a bit tart and lemony but the overall impression is of a pleasant, youthful drink."
