Clarendon Hills Bakers Gully Syrah 2012
This is Roman Bratasuik's entry level Shiraz intended for early drinking sourced from younger dry grown vines. Maturation takes place in French oak (85% new) for a period of 18 months.
Torbreck Vintners Harris Barossa Valley Grenache 2016
This single site Grenache comes from the Harris Vineyard located in Marananga on the western ridge of the Barossa Valley. Grown as bush vines in iron stone rich brown loam and clay soils the resulting wine is highly expressive with fragrant aromatics, tension and balance. A bush vine is a grapevine without a trellis and is pruned to form a “goblet” shape, to separate the bunches of fruit. Low to the ground these vines benefit from the warmth of the earth to create an ideal ripening condition. Grenache is best suited to this bush vine growing technique because of the upright orientation of its shoots. Despite a dry winter during 2015, rains in January and March 2016, freshened the older vines and provided long, slow ripening periods in between, which led to a stand-out vintage with high quality fruit.
Monolith Vintners Old Vine Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017
The 2017 vintage proved to be another good Barossa vintage following on from the outstanding 2016 vintage which although had challenges provided excellent varietal flavours. The dry grown, old vines that yielded this fruit managed to produce wonderful fruit despite small volumes. We hand picked the fruit from a single block with vines aged up to 90 years. The fruit was transported to the winery where it was gently de-stemmed into concrete open top fermenters. It was then carefully nurtured for 7 days on skins with pump overs occurring twice daily, varying in duration and intensity. When primary fermentation was almost complete, the wine was drained from the skins and the must is gently basket pressed for 8 hours. The wine remains in a stainless steel tank until primary fermentation is completed. It is then run directly into new and old American and French hogsheads where it spent the next 24 months. Once the oak and the wine had perfectly become one the wine is blended and bottled without the use of filtration or fining. 670 six packs were produced in total.
Clarendon Hills Liandra Mourvedre 2010
Clarendon Hills are vineyard and varietal expressionists who strive for purity and perfection and seek to portray the story of the individual vineyard 'Terroir' within their wines. Clarendon Hills’ collection of the old vine vineyards in sub-regions of McLaren Vale assists in defining their international pedigree for making world class wines that rate extremely highly among the international press. Among the 9 single vineyards of Syrah is the Liandra vineyard which is located within the Blewitt Springs sub region of McLaren Vale, South Australia. All of the wines at Clarendon Hills are made by hand and are crafted using only natural processes and ingredients.
Ronco di Sassi Vino Rosso d'Italia 2015
Skins and must are in contact for a certain period (maceration), in order to extract more colour, tannins and aromatic aromas. Once maceration is over, the mustwine is separated from lees and completes its fermentation in tanks steel (temperature 24-26 °C). A part of this wine is aged in barrique of French oak for some months.
McGuigan Personal Reserve Hunter Valley Shiraz 2014
The 2014 growing season is noted for producing red wine at the top end of the qualitative spectrum. The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Bainton Vineyard in the subregion of Broke. This is a dry grown (unirrigated) Vineyard which accesses water supply from a subterranean water table. The resultant fruit provides highly concentrated flavours. Cool conditions throughout most of the growing season were coupled with dry hot conditions at the tail end of the season. At harvest due to low crop loads the grapes had excellent varietal and regional characteristics as well as a very dense colour hue. This wine is atraditional style Shiraz with minimal oak influence and has an enormous aging potential.
Xanadu Exmoor Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
The growing season began with late budburst after a relatively cold, wet Winter. The mild Spring which followed ensured that there was good flowering and fruit set, in fact some yields needed to be addressed with crop thinning. Fine, mild conditions prevailed during Summer, which ended up being one of the coolest growing seasons in recent years. Harvest commenced late, at the end of February, with abundant Marri blossom keeping bird pressure very low whilst the whites were harvested. March was relatively wet with a significant rain event after most of the white fruit had been picked. Fortunately, the April that followed was glorious (the driest April since 1982 in fact) with fine weather and no heat extremes experienced at all. The extended ripening period allowing the reds to attain full physiological maturity and tannin ripeness with a wonderful sense of finesse. 75% of blend was Estate grown on our Boodjudup and Stevens Road vineyards in the Wallcliffe sub-region of Margaret River. The remainder was predominantly sourced from an established Margaret River vineyard in Wilyabrup.
Shanahans The Reaper Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016
Sourced from a single old vineyard in the Greenock sub region of the Barossa Valley on the Western Ridge. The Shiraz grapes were individually picked out in this vineyard for their exceptional quality just for this specific wine as the vintage conditions ensured small bunches and bunch numbers with tiny concentrated berries which I felt was perfect for this limited release and the style I wanted to achieve. The grapes were picked and delivered to the winery for crushing and were fermented in one small batch in barrel. Fermented then basket pressed before being aged in barrel for 24 months maturation prior to bottling with minimal fining and filtration. Only 600 Bottles Released.

"A rich, typically ripe Australian shiraz whose concentrated, confiture-like bouquet of cassis, blackberries, raspberries and blood plums has a meaty background of chocolatey oak, musky spice and a hint of raisin. It’s luscious and opulently flavoured, powerfully steeped in briary cassis, mulberry, blackberry and dark plum flavours, tightly knit with oak and reveals some leathery development. It finishes savoury, with a hint of licorice, dark olive and roasting pan."

"Deep garnet/purple, the 2012 Syrah Bakers Gully reveals attractive cassis, blackberries, black cherries, earth, aged beef and game notes with cloves and tobacco hints. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, the palate is packed with flavor and framed by firm, fine tannins through the long and meaty finish."

"Excellent depth of colour. Mid- to full-bodied with tar, blackberry, dried herb and sweet redcurrant flavours. Choc-coffee notes have melted entirely into the fruit. Succulent. No problems drinking this now."

"From bushvines planted '02, hand-picked, destemmed into a concrete open fermenter, pumped over twice daily for 8 days, matured in used French hogsheads for 12 months. It is a full-bodied grenache notwithstanding the alcohol, and it will be fascinating to see what comes along with the '17 vintage."

"Dense, deep, purple-crimson; has the weight, depth, textural complexity and flavour richness typical of Clarendon Hills, but no other maker. Fruit, oak and tannins are welded together in a seamless stream that will grace any red meat dish. The lack of coarse extraction is remarkable."

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Liandra Vineyard Syrah reveals expressive aromas of mulberries, black cherries and wild blueberries with hints of soy, yeast extract and baking spices plus a whiff of rose petals. Full-bodied and showing great poise and intensity in the mouth, it has a wonderful core of red berry and spice flavors framed by medium to firm levels of rounded tannins and lifted acidity through a long finish"

"One of Australia’s iconic producers, Clarendon Hills marches confidently to its own drum, crafting deeply flavoured, profoundly structured and often rather savoury and Old Worldly reds from shiraz and grenache from a variety of sites in the higher Clarendon subregion of McLaren Vale. Each are made and bottled separately, so a new vintage tasting of Clarendon Hills wine will take more than half an hour! It’s also home to some steadily improving cabernet sauvignons and some slightly idiosyncratic Mourvèdre and Merlot. The winery’s two top red wines, the Astralis Syrah and the Romas Grenache, easily justify their 5-Star status. The Domaine Clarendon Syrah is an exciting and relatively new project that should gain more standing and status as the vineyard matures. I love the ambition and attitude behind Clarendon Hills. It’s pushing the envelopes of style and quality, and it’s spectacular when it succeeds."

"This is a died in the wool classic from the '14 vintage. The grapes were picked at precisely the right time, resulting in great generosity, the mouthfeel is velvety yet fresh, the plum, blackberry and spice fruit a long way away from the savoury/earthy notes that will develop with age. At every point along the journey there will be pleasure."
Xanadu Exmoor Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

"Very good release. It tastes authentically of Margaret River and of cabernet. It's curranty, gravelly, smooth-skinned and fresh. There's a creaminess to its texture and a gum leaf lift to its aromatics. It's a wine that really improves as it rests in the glass, not that each glass lasts too long. There's value in spades to be had here."
