Tasting Notes

Kopparossa Coonawarra Reserve Shiraz 2017

Deep, earthy red with purple and plum coloured hues. Toasty, spicey, cherry plum, chocolate with a hint of mint. Velvety, ripe fleshy cherry fruit flavours with a lingering astringency- from firm supple grape and oak tannins. Still a youthful wine that will develop into a bigger, richer, complex individual, as time goes on.

Songlines Estates Basket Pressed McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Bright purple with bright red hue.Lovely intense highly fragrant nose showcasing fresh cut plum, blueberry and some olive notes. Spicy vanillin oak rounds out the nose without being overbearing.Classical McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon with our trademark style, the wine bursts onto the palate although is smooth as silk. Firm Cabernet Sauvignon tannins sensational fruit weight with highlighted notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, licorice, earth and just enough spice to add another level of complexity. The flavours evolve in the mouth and finish off with intensity typical of our style of wines.

Limb Vineyards Home Block Seppeltsfield Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017

Traditional style Barossa Shiraz, the nose displays abundant fruit with layers of plush dark cherry, black currant and a lovely earth character balanced by integrated French oak.

A full-bodied Barossa Shiraz highlighting why I feel the Western Barossa Valley produces the best fruit. It’s a big chunky old style with amazing tannins that are supported by dark fruits and balanced acidity. Notes of Cherry, licorice and white pepper adds complexity while the balance of fruit intensity and oak provide this wine with great line and length.

Bleasdale Wild Fig Langhorne Creek Shiraz Grenache Mouvedre 2020

Lifted blueberry fruit and cherry cola notes, wild thyme, star anise, savoury & earthy characters.

Pikes The Dogwalk Clare Valley Cabernet 2017

Medium to deep red. Attractive, fragrant red and black currant fruit with gentle aromas of crushed violets with hints of cedar and cigar box – the oak very much in the background as usual. Medium bodied, displaying good concentration of fruit, subtle French oak, well balanced acidity and lovely, fine tannins. The length of flavor and overall elegance of the wine are highlights.

The Colonial Estate Exile Barossa Valley Shiraz 2018

Deep Rich and expressive bouquet with black fruits, dark chocolate and mulberries, plum and black olive. Full bodied and highly concentrated fruit with a really plush texture. The flavour concentration is powerful and yet matches with  its impeccable balance and elegance. The fruit flavours of plum and black fruits, all work within the framework, which is fleshy and opulent with a chocolate character shining on the mid palate. There is a lovely spicy note along with subtle hint of oak, but this does not dominate given the powerful fruit flavour. The tannins are velvety smooth which when allowed to open up and breathe illustrate the longevity possible with a long dark seductive finish which is in a word mouthwatering.

James Halliday Wine Companion

"A 75/25% blend of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. An interesting outcome, with the apparent ceiling of ripeness resulting in notes of herb and mint accompanying the more usual notes of blackcurrant."

Songlines Estates Basket Pressed McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

“Songlines” are invisible pathways which criss cross the land all over Australia and stretch across continents and ages. The exceptional wine is named Songlines as it perfectly encapsulates the importance of the land, people and knowledge learned over time and across continents. 2018 growing season had very good winter rainfall. A dry spring followed encouraging healthy growth. The long dryIndian summer that followed meant great concentration of flavours. The conditions continued through autumn with warm conditions which in turn meant disease was not a factor and contributed to natural fermentation. After handpicking whole bunches we allowed the fruit to be cold macerated for 24 hours to ensure brightness and depth of flavour. After this fermentation occurred in small open top fermenters with and we hand plunged over a two-week period. Then we basket pressed and drained into 30% New French oak and 70% older American oak hogshead barrels for a period of 12 months before bottling with minimal fining or filtration to ensure the wines true character was fulfilled. A wine that will stand the test of time, drinking well now or over Next 10 years.

Limb Vineyards Home Block Seppeltsfield Barossa Valley Shiraz 2017

After the cold and rainy winter period in 2016 the Barossa had a spring which is one of the wettest on record. This set up a perfect 2017 crop and the mild weather pattern we encountered through veraison was ideal with top up rain fall during early 2017. The dry Indian summer finished off the growing season creating wonderful ripening conditions. The fruit was crushed, de-stemmed and left on skins in open top fermenters for 8-10 days. A slow ferment then occurred with temperatures ranging from 15-18C, the wine had open pump-overs and hand plunging to ensure fruit intensity. Once fermentation was completed the wine was pressed into old French barrels that were re-shaved just for this wine. The wine spent 24 months in oak to mature until I felt the time was right to bottle. Final barrel selection ensured only the best of the best wine made it into the final blend before bottling with minimal fining or filtration.

Bleasdale Wild Fig Langhorne Creek Shiraz Grenache Mouvedre 2020

Shiraz and Grenache de-stemmed together to open fermenters for pre-ferment maceration. Pump overs up to 4 times daily. Drained & pressed after 10 days on skins, settled for 24 hours before racking to tank and oak for maturation. Further blending with other select parcels before bottling. Bleasdale continues to showcase the ability of Langhorne Creek to produce quality individualistic wines. Shiraz and Grenache were originally grown in Langhorne Creek for fortified winemaking but are proving to be excellent for table wine. Nurtured from small parcels into a vibrant, delicious drink. A medium weight red wine with lifted blueberry fruit and cherry cola notes, wild thyme, star anise, savoury & earthy characters. Depth and personality from the Shiraz with notes of rain on hot gravel, clove and citrus. Lifted fruit flavour with a fine chalky finish. Perfect when watching a summer thunderstorm.

Pikes The Dogwalk Clare Valley Cabernet 2017

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (75%) and Cabernet Franc (25%) – the Franc adds lovely perfume as well as some flesh to the wine. Very enjoyable as a young wine, but it will take 7-10+ years of cellaring very easily.

The Colonial Estate Exile Barossa Valley Shiraz 2018

The finest selection of 100-year-old dry grown vines, which are pruned severely and receive two runs of green harvesting finally producing one tonne to two tonnes per acre. The grapes were then hand-picked, and the grapes sorted. The 2018 vintage was characterized by steady ripening of fruit and we were able to select individual blocks in the vineyard to get the very best fruit flavours with some tight ripe tannins. The wine is fermented in vats after extreme cold maceration. The wines have their malolactic in new French oak and are thereafter in the same oak for 24 months prior to bottling with minimal filtration and then further aging in bottle.
